Apparently "Polk is great" is a new right-wing talking point. I was listening to a local right-wing radio station and they were saying that Romney had the potential to be another James Polk- which made me laugh so hard that I almost went off the road as he is generally considered the WORST- or at least right up there with Harding!

It's helpful to look at history when evaluating conservative's statements; Polk IS the perfect example of a laissez-fair conservative. It's not the federal government's job to stop slavery. If a state wants to ban it, fine but you can't FORCE a state to ban it.

I love when someone invokes the "Government IS the problem" quote by Reagan. They REALLY believe that those people standing on their roofs in New Orleans for three days were saying "well at LEAST one of those pesky National Guard rescue boats didn't come by! I sure as hell don't need no gubment mucking this up for me!"

'Hate' is so often a word we use to avoid using the more accurate 'fear'.(There are exceptions, of course. I don't think I actually FEAR turnips...)

Poor Jim and his buddies are so terrified of a world in which everyone doesn't look just like them. And they yearn for a (fictional) simpler day when everybody looked like them and they were all so darned safe and happy. It was great!

And now there are these little thugs running around with their underpants down around their thighs, and they spray-paint dirty words on the buildings and they just spend all day getting high and taking welfare. And then there are all these damned Orientals (sic/sick!) who steal all the good jobs because they're so good at math--they train the little ones on abacuses (abaci?) so they have a head start. And the world is going to heck in a handbasket. And it's scary. And it's "their" fault.

I really feel for Jim--it sucks to be scared. But the fact is that this fear is as old as the country. The Germans were going to ruin America. And the Irish. And the Jews. And the Arabs. And the Mexicans. And the Cubans. And the Blacks. And somehow, they never do. Because we believe in giving people a chance to start a new life and make a living and contribute. Every single time we give in to fear, we waste our own time and energy and we squander the strength and vitality that comes from all these people.

Jim and his friends are scared. Mitt and the Koch brothers want to prey on that fear to take office in order to enrich themselves, and the possibility that they might convince poor, scared, stupid people like Jim to vote for Mitt is what makes me lose my patience and empathy with his bullsh*t and want to pound some sense into his stupid, fat, ugly face.

God, I hate him...

I think we should all try our best to only write "Jim Colyer, white supremacist" if we write his name in a post. Right now, the title of this thread, Jim Colyer and his white Supremcist bud, David Duke. Need I say more?, is now the Google link at the top of the second Google search page on his name. (I was looking to see if any legit country stars had recorded any of his songs, but every link on page one of the search goes to his own site.)

Jim Colyer's white supremacist views should not be squelched (I am one of those card-carrying ACLU members people like Jim loathe), but should be met with even more speech. One thing that would be good is if we could "Santorum" the link to this thread and move it on up to the top of the first page of his name search.

That way, people will be more likely to see this thread.

I will provide a convenient link to hit reload on again and again.
