They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

And Starbucks will use the words 'large' and 'small', not pretentious crap like grande and tall.

I prefer black for auditions, but I like tan for shows. Black doesn't always go with your costume...

If you don't need them for a specific audition, I'd wait to see what you need for the specific show. If you do need (or just desperately want..
) a pair before that, then buy one or the other, and be prepared to buy another pair in the right color.
You might want to check out this link to the capezio outlet. They have some REALLY cheap. I actually bought a pair of $10 shoes and then spray painted them when the director decided she wanted "ivory" shoes instead of my tan character shoes.

You are always going to need tan character shoes in some show you are in along the line, so I would recommend getting them.
The course of true love never did run smooth.

singingwendy is right. Eventually you will probably need both!
But if you are buying a pair just to have for auditions, etc. It's a matter of preference.
A tip - If you usually audition with black tights, get black. If you usually audition with tan tights or go barefoot beneath your shoes, get the tan.
This way you don't break the line of your leg, and the color "extends" to your toes. It gives you a nice graceful line that looks much better when you are dancing (and auditioning) than a broken line.

Welllll...I'm rather pale, and I don't (usually) wear black tights so I'm going to go with the tan.
