So I just wanted to get my thoughts out so I won’t be distracted on work thinking about it. First of all it should be known that I knew nothing about this show going in. Nada, zip. I am a HUGE Laura Linney fan however, so when I saw the 10 dollar tickets online, I just hyperventilated and bought them. That said, I pretty much loved the show, and thought that it was a damn first good preview.
That said, the real reason to see this is Laura Linney and Ben Dainels. The two eat up the stage and are a pleasure to watch as they betray, cheat and plot together. The rest of the cast was pretty solid with a few weak links here and there. I did not have a problem with the accents as I have read though there was one by a minor character that did stand out as pretty bad.
Side note-Did anyone else feel the Coram Boy vibe just a little? I was a big fan of that show, and with the eerie lighting, and the baroque music it certainly had that feel to me. I realize we are dealing with completely different beasts here, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless.
The set was sparse, but I thought it did the job. Costume wise everything looked great, but my favorite was Linney’s red dress she comes out with towards the end. Simply Stunning. (I know I love her!).
Overall, I was hard pressed to find much evidence that this was the first preview. Yes, there was some light stumbling over lines, but it was barely noticeable. For such a long show I was thoroughly engrossed, and have already ordered the film off amazon. 10 dollars well spent.
All of this may be slightly influenced by the fact that I did get to meet Laura at the stage door and get a picture. She was soo nice!
PS. Steve and (EDIT) Without a trace,Good to see you again!
EDIT-Sorry for Double posting...BWW was being funky!
