re: Spanish translation question.  Aug 28 2007, 05:37:46 PM
Kringas' translation is terribly despicable. For if it were true, she wouldn't be so angry all the time...

I especially like "lisen a mí." Very Mexican, I think.

Hocus Pocus.

WickedBoy's translation means the gravity of defiance.

You really need something like "Escapar de la Gravidad" or "Huir de la Gravidad."

But if you want to convey the same meaning, you would need something like "realizar." If you want to fit the rhythm you could say "Realizándome" (which doesn't really work by itself).

It's not as nice as the English, but you would have to find an idiomatic expression ("frase hecha," not "idioma") for "realizar" and "esc

re: LoveMusik Cast Recording?  Aug 28 2007, 02:22:20 PM
NANA'S LIED was Blazer's opening song.

And obviously SCHICKELGRUBER made it. I wouldn't mind if they cut the MORITAT, ILLUSION WEDDING SHOW, VERY, VERY, VERY, BUDDY ON THE NIGHT SHIFT, and HOSANNAH ROCKEFELLER, as well as some of the Gershwin stuff.

VERY, VERY, VERY seemed, no pun intended, very shoehorned into the show. And the HOSANNAHS were greats in the theatre for those who "got" it. I don't think many did - unless you know the sarcastic nature of them from HAPPY

re: Hairspray is now the 4th movie musical of all times  Aug 27 2007, 08:08:41 PM
BEst12bars is correct.

There are "Good Times" and there are "Bad Times" and then - sometimes - there were bad times on "Good Times" (like when James Evans, Sr. died).

re: Chorus Line 8/25 2pm OUCH  Aug 27 2007, 11:40:14 AM
Well, to be fair, Bundy is almost half the age of d'Amboise (give or take some years).

I believe it was best12bars who said it - it's not just the choreography of Music and the Mirror that's killer. It's standing around for all that time before it.

I also noticed the Mark/Mike line missing. I saw the show a week or so before the "original" cast left and Tyler Hanes said the line. When I saw it about a week or so after the new cast took over, the line was no longer there.

Maybe it was just forgotten...

After seeing it again I realized just how much the production will lose once Natalie Cortez is gone.

Careful guys or you're going to put every soap opera out of business.
re: Burton told to tone down SWEENEY's blood bath  Aug 24 2007, 06:18:28 PM
It's not blood - it's rubies. Precious rubies.

"Youth" is a fancy New York term for "poor," remember...

Roscoe, I am very sorry for you.

I am so happy for this!

Tracy Letts is a brilliant writer.

re: Who can't wait for IN THE HEIGHTS?!?!?  Aug 21 2007, 12:09:04 PM
I can't wait. I waited too long to see it while it was playing off-Broadway and consequently missed it.

That's awesome that you got to meet Little Edie.

Just watch out for "Grey Gardens Soundtrack."

Thanks for sharing!

As long as Jennifer Coolidge is there, I'm there...

It's been on TKTS. 35%, last I checked.
re: MAMMA MIA!: The Movie begins location filming in Greece!  Aug 20 2007, 12:20:38 AM
Carolee was out

I was extremely disappointed, but Corinne Melançon was in. I thought she was fantastic! Her acting was fantastic and the never ending note at the end of WINNER TAKES IT ALL was beautiful. And she looks so much like Meryl Streep.

I actually quite enjoyed the show. I'm actually thinking about going back to catch Carolee sometime (she's one of my favorite performers).

P.S. Is Carolee still in the show? NYT lists as the current cast: Starring Carey Anderson as Sophie Sheridan, Veronica J Kuehn as Ali, Samantha Eggers as Lisa, Judy McLane as Tanya, Gina Farrell as Rosie, Corinne Melançon as Donna Sheridan, Andy Kelso as Sky, Ben Gettinger as Pepper, Raymond J. Lee as Eddie, Michael Mastro as Harry Bright, Pearce Bunting as Bill Austin, David McDonald as Sam Carmichael and Bryan Scott Johnson as Father Alexandrios

Carolee is still listed in the program, though...

re: Why is GREASE opening on a Sunday night?  Aug 19 2007, 10:52:13 AM
Honestly, Max, Laura, Jenny Powers, Robyn Hurder are the standouts of this production.

I finally got a ticket to see this!

I just hope Carolee Carmello is in, otherwise I will truly be devastated.
