Hugh Jackman in The Music Man  Mar 15 2019, 11:41:57 AM

I like the theory that Winthrop is actually Marian's son with Old Meiser Madison. It would then make sense that 1) there's gossip about Marian 2)Winthrop being happy about his new trumpet is the key to Marian's heart. Reportedly, even Rebecca Luker thought this theory was "interesting"

Take home point: age wouldn't matter as much with this theory so it gives more options in casting. I personally like an older Marian

Hugh Jackman in The Music Man  Mar 13 2019, 05:16:23 PM

Awww bummer, after seeing Seth Rudetsky's video of Patti LuPone singing "Trouble", I've been hoping for a gender bent Music Man starring Patti LuPone as Harold Hill and Norm Lewis as Marian

GREY GARDENS off-broadway vs obc cast album?  Apr 29 2016, 06:21:50 PM

bjh2114 said: "but I do like the musical changes they made for Broadway."

Interesting! Did they change the orchestrations? Is there a bigger orchestra on the broadway version?

Also, thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'm now curious enough to get the broadway version :)

GREY GARDENS off-broadway vs obc cast album?  Apr 29 2016, 01:37:48 PM

I realized 5 years too late that when I bought the Grey Gardens original broadway cast album, amazon sent me the off-broadway cast album instead. Which version is better?

Thanks for posting this thread. I haven't been to the venue before, but I definitely want to see this production!

I'm a student who bought tickets for Side Show wednesday night 12/11 at La Jolla Playhouse and then just got a final exam moved to thursday 12/12 so I can't go.

Email me or PM me if you're interested in using the tickets and wanna pay me back.
ilovethefloor at hotmail. I used the "under 30 deal" so you need at least one ID of someone who's under 30 years old.

Transposing Songs in Theatre  Jun 7 2013, 06:43:03 PM
I think there are some instances in which changing the key actually makes the song more effective. It probably happens less frequently, but it does happen. For example, I found Lonette McKee's versions of "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" & "Bill" from the 1994 Revival of Show Boat more poignant & musically satisfying than versions in the original key.
Theresa Rebeck's FEVER  May 3 2013, 05:30:22 PM
I heard her fever has been recurring on a three day interval after she got bit by a mosquito while in sub-saharan Africa.
MARY POPPINS closes today  Mar 3 2013, 11:35:11 AM
^agreed! I saw it twice on tour (the first time with Ashley Brown & Gavin Lee at the Ahmanson.) If anyone is at the last performance, let us know what it's like & if any former cast members are there. I loved Mr. & Mrs. Banks' story, Mary's hilarious tartness, Bert's ceiling dance & of course Mary's goodbye at the end.

Glad it had a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious run! Brava!

Detroiters who saw Kristin Chenoweth at the Opera House  Oct 23 2012, 03:43:16 PM
While she missed fellow “Wicked” star Idina Menzel at the Opera House by a scant few weeks, she found another duet partner for the friendship ode “For Good” in her tour manager’s 17-year-old daughter, a Rochester teen who delivered a solid performance next to the seasoned performer that led Chenoweth to remark that her harmonies were “spot on.”

That's a quote from this review of the concert: http://www.thenewsherald.com/articles/2012/06/25/entertainment/doc4fe4a0d08189e730688116.txt?viewmode=fullstory

and here's the video from YT (the person who posted it might know something)

Hope this helps send you on the right trail. If you can't find anything else, I suggest asking at Glitter, KChenoweth.net
Good luck!

Best Unrequited Love Songs Suggestions  Oct 19 2012, 11:10:19 AM
f130verture, I love the song "She Was There" but I don't think it counts. Percy and Marguerite never stop loving each other, which is why most of the show is so tragic. "She Was There" is the song in which his love for her is vindicated, essentially.

Ah, Thanks. I never saw the show - just listened to the cast album.

Holiday Selections from Musicals - List  Oct 9 2012, 05:42:00 AM
"Do-Re-Mi" from Sound of Music...yes it's technically not a Christmas song in the musical, but that doesn't stop it from constantly being played during Christmas season
2012 Broadway Flea Market Thread  Sep 21 2012, 07:00:07 PM
If somebody gets a chance, can you ask Rebecca Luker when she's coming back to broadway?
Hollywood bowl: sound of music sing-a-long  Sep 7 2012, 12:14:20 AM

Does it usually sell out? I've never been before, but might go this year...

Songs with weird Time Signatures/Meter Changes??  Aug 16 2012, 10:03:05 PM
Definitely adding West End Avenue to the list!! I'll let you know how the aftermath of jogging with it turns out
Thanks for some great suggestions - will check some of these out.

Sparrman, that's hilarious about the Korean Evita album!!

Songs with weird Time Signatures/Meter Changes??  Aug 16 2012, 06:31:44 PM
Can anyone think of any broadway songs with weird time signatures or meter changes? The sadist in me wants to make an exercise playlist and see what happens while jogging to it...

The songs I thought of so far:
America from WSS (2/4, 3/4 pattern)
Superboy and the Invisible Girl from N2N (11/
Life of the Party from Lippa's Wild Party (2/4, 4/4, ?? 3/4?)
The Five-Fifteen from Grey Gardens (there's a random 7/8 bar in there)
Thank Goodness/I Couldn't Be Happier from Wicked (5/8,2/4 pattern?)
Oh Happy We from Candide (4/4, 3/4)
Make Our Garden Grow from Candide (??)

I'm sure there's a bunch of Sondheim, but his stuff is usually so syncopated that I can't even tell if it's in 4/4. haha
