I realized 5 years too late that when I bought the Grey Gardens original broadway cast album, amazon sent me the off-broadway cast album instead. Which version is better?

I prefer the Broadway album. Davie is superb.

I also listen to the Broadway album more often. Most of the tracks are the same but similar to the Fun Home Broadway cast album they did make a few changes and the updated recording reflects that.

I actually prefer Sara's voice to Erin's voice, but I do like the musical changes they made for Broadway.

I also prefer the Broadway album for Davie's performance. But I enjoy the Off as well for the different songs.

Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

Interesting! Did they change the orchestrations? Is there a bigger orchestra on the broadway version?

Also, thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'm now curious enough to get the broadway version :)

Davie is the main incentive, as well as the added songs. Much better, in my opinion. I can't rave enough about Erin's magnificent turn.

The differences in the score are really pretty significant. Far moreso than the difference between the Fun Home albums. Many whole songs are replaced or cut, with lyrical changes in other numbers.

I did not see either run of the show, but vocally I much prefer Sara Gettelfinger.

Although she did not seem to commit to a "Little Edie" voice I think her voice is so interesting and it's pretty much the only recording with her in a lead role.

And I do prefer that version of the score (again I didn't see the show so I can't vouch for or against the whole iterations of the show).
