Heather Matarazzo: Lesbian Actress:

"Heather Matarazzo: Casually Comes out as Lesbian : Heather Matarazzo came out as a lesbian in 2004. In an interview with the New York Daily News she said, "I met the person I'm so madly crazy in love with. She's not famous yet. She will be. She wants to do musical theater and stage, which is not as demoralizing as the movie business is." By casually mentioning her partner's gender, Matarazzo took a huge step and subtly announced to the world, "I am a lesbian."

Heather Matarazzo: Coming out as Lesbian for a Cause: In April 2005, Heather Matarazzo was the keynote speaker at the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network of Boston's annual confrence where she described her struggle to accept her sexual orientation. "It was such a burden, because I had to pretend to be this person that I wasn't."

Heather Matarazzo's Films: Heather Matarazzo has acted in many TV and Hollywood and Independent Movies. These are a few of them:

I don't see anyone here who is not gay; Cooper may not be officially "out" but he's far from "in."

Never knew about Mike Nichols!

I did Gypsy with Joanne Worley in the 80's - believe me, I was surprised (pleasantly) about that one too. I also have worked with a top financial adviser who is also a lebian...but...Heather M has been very open about her sexuality. There is even a documentary about queer film where she discusses her passion for certain lesbian films, and scenes...if you know what I mean.lol.

re: More Famous American Gays

being gay is not just about sexuality. one of the things that it's about is people who lost their partners at the Twin Towers aren't eligible for benefits because they were not married. and some of them might have chosen to be married if it was allowed.

Anderson Cooper is hot.

And a Vanderbilt.

re: More Famous American Gays
Posted by chita33 2006-05-31 12:39:36.0

It doesn't.

or maybe it does. maybe if more famous people would come out, we could turn the tide on anti-gay legislation? maybe GLBT children can grow up finding heroes who they can identify with?

re: More Famous American Gays
Posted by cheezedoodle 2006-05-31 12:44:37.0

Cooper is hot - I believe it is common knowledge within certain circles, but because he is a Vanderbuilt it's not being brought up as an issue - nor should it be. Undi and I were in the Time Warner building last Saturday and saw that Anderson will be signing copies of his new book on the second level in the CNN shop June 7th (or 9th)? I don't remember. But if someone goes...

Anderson Cooper:

Some in the gay community believe that Cooper's sexual orientation is an "open-secret" and want him to publicly 'come out'. It has been further claimed, e.g. on blogACTIVE, that discussion of Cooper's sexuality is increasingly seen as a liability to his career and so is no longer acknowledged; "his handlers at CNN [are] known to call sites and ask editors to delete references to Anderson Cooper being gay." Blogger Andy Towle referred to Cooper as "the most openly closeted gay man in America" after reading a New York magazine article which reported on the matter as follows:

There has been a lot of chatter on the Internet about the fact that Cooper may or may not be gay, and Village Voice columnist Michael Musto has taken pleasure in quoting the gay magazine Metrosource, which has referred to Cooper as "the openly gay news anchor." It has been assumed in certain circles in New York partly because he lives what looks to some to be a gay social life. He’s often seen at parties with Barry Diller, and he's friends with the lead singer from the outré gay rock band the Scissor Sisters. And then there was the tempest in a teapot regarding a slightly heated interview last fall with Jerry Falwell about gay marriage. Some Cooper-obsessed bloggers insist that the anchor outed himself on the air, taking the gay side of the debate and saying, "We pay taxes." They claim CNN originally posted a transcript with the "we" and then later changed it to "You pay taxes." Cooper has maintained all along that he said "you."

When I bring up the sexuality issue with Cooper, he says, "You know, I understand why people might be interested. But I just don’t talk about my personal life. It’s a decision I made a long time ago, before I ever even knew anyone would be interested in my personal life. The whole thing about being a reporter is that you're supposed to be an observer and to be able to adapt with any group you’re in, and I don’t want to do anything that threatens that."

Like that article jimnysf linked, I couldn't find anything other than wishful thinking that Steve Young is gay. The rumor started as a result of a commercial he filmed and stuck. Even if he is closeted, I wouldn't classify him nor any other closeted gays "Famous American Gays". I don't view gays that are afraid to come out in this day and age as role models. What kind of example is that? I can respect their choice for not coming out for whatever reason, but I certainly don't endorse it.

Chuck Palahnuik is a queer? Well, i did not know that about my favorite author, and local hero.

re: More Famous American Gays
Posted by M J R 2006-05-31 17:43:01.0

In September 2003, Palahniuk was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly's Karen Valby. During the interview, Palahniuk confidentially mentioned information pertaining to his partner. While it had been previously believed by many that he was married to a woman (some members of the press had claimed he had a wife), Palahniuk had in fact been living with his boyfriend. Some time later, Palahniuk believed that Valby was going to print this information in her article, without his consent. In response, he put an angry audio recording of himself on his web site, not only revealing that he is gay, but also making negative comments about Valby and a member of her family. However, Palahniuk's fears turned out to be ungrounded, and Valby's article did not reveal anything about his personal life outside of the fact that he is unmarried. The recording was later removed from the web site, making some fans believe that Palahniuk is embarrassed of his homosexuality. According to Dennis Widmyer, the site's webmaster, the recording was not removed because of the statements regarding his sexuality, but because of the statements about Valby. Palahniuk would later post a new recording to his site, asking his fans not to overreact to these events. He also apologized for his behavior, claiming that he wished he had not recorded the message.[7]

well that is interesting.

I adore Palahniuk.

(I would believe a claim that he is ashamed, or at least embarassed about his homosexuality, because he has claimed that Fight Club was not Homoerotic, when it clearly is)

Is Kevin Spirtas officially out? The whole Days Of Our Lives era, I thought, kept him in the closet, but maybe I'm wrong.

Speaking of Days -- what was the name of the actor on the show who had been a gay porn star? Wasn't it the guy who played Jude St. Clair?

re: More Famous American Gays
Posted by MrMidwest 2006-06-05 12:39:28.0

I think Kevin Spirtas is out. He may have downplayed things a bit during his DOOL days, but I'm not sure. His sexuality is mentioned in the Crystal Lake Memories book about the making of the Friday the 13th movies. Apparently there were several other gay actors in Part 7.

The guy from Days of Our Lives that you're talking about is Jeff Griggs aka Tony Sinatra.
