Beginning April 16th, the award-winning Wetumpka Depot Players will present a spring show, the second of their 35th Anniversary season, that is sure to please teenagers to Baby Boomers. A dashing drifter, a beautiful girl and the last day of summer will stir up passion and propriety on the Depot stage for William Inge's American theatre classic, Picnic.

Directed by Tom Salter, this romantic Pulitzer Prize winning play has thrilled audiences for over 60 years. The play takes place in the heartland of America on Labor Day weekend, 1953. "If you rocked around the clock to Bill Haley and the Comets or simply love the nostalgia of the 1950s, then this play will take you on a sentimental journey," said Salter. "I am delighted to be working with a marvelous cast and crew who are working non stop to create the small town world of 1953 Kansas. Picnic was first show I saw as a Troy University student in 1976 . Their production of this wonderful play motivated me to change my major to Theatre. When the Depot Players asked me to direct their revival production of this play, I jumped at the chance to revisit such a special show ."

First performed at the Depot in 1992 at the historic train Depot, the current cast of some of the River Region's strongest actors features: Kim Mason, Ashlee Lassiter, Jennifer Haberkorn, Cheryl Jones, Reece Lynch, Jay Russell, Jerry Cappadona, Judy Savage and Janie Alred. Retuning from the 1992 cast will be Kristy Meanor and Lee Bridges.

Show dates are April 16-17, 23-25,30-May 2 at 7:30pm, with two matinees on April 19 and 26 at 2pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 online. The theatre is located at 300 S Main Street with box office hours Wednesday-Friday 9am-3pm Tickets may be purchased by calling 334.868.1440 or wetumpkadepot.com.
