The Alabama Shakespeare Festival Presents a Comedy Double Feature Beginning 1/27

By:

Two "winter-blues" busting comedies, the Broadway smash The 39 Steps and Travels With My Aunt will be running in tandem at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival beginning on January 27. The 39 Steps will be performed at ASF's Festival stage from January 27 through February 7 and Travels With My Aunt will run on ASF's Octagon stage from February 3-7. Both shows will return later in the repertory season.

Tickets to The 39 Steps and Travels With My Aunt start at $30 and are available through the ASF box office, on line at www.asf.net or by phone at 800.841.4273. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is located at 1 Festival Drive in Montgomery's beautiful Blount Cultural Park.

Four actors play 140 roles in The 39 Steps. In the story Richard Hannay's dull life becomes anything but when he meets up with a beautiful mysterious spy. When she is murdered in his home an organization called The 39 Steps goes hot on his trail. This comedy thriller adapted by Phillip Barlow from the novel by John Buchan and inspired by the film of legendary director Alfred Hitchcock is filled with fever pitched gasp-a-minute fun.

The New York Post raved that The 39 Steps is "riotous and marvelous." The New York Daily News declared the show is "ingenious…a dizzy delight!"

The cast includes Brik Berkes, Louis Butelli, Peter Simon Hilton and Vanessa Morosco. ASF's associate directorNancy Rominger directs the production.

Travels With My Aunt, adapted by Giles Havergal from Graham Greene's classic novel is a delightful global comedy-adventure. Henry Pulling's life is turned up-side down at his mother's funeral when he is reunited with his long-lost and eccentric Aunt Augusta. The two begin an around the world adventure in which they encounter spies, thieves, smugglers and a long-held family secret. Four actors play 20 roles in this comical tour de force.

The Daily Mail UK exclaimed the Travels With My Aunt is "inventive, amusing…a lively evening."

The cast includes James Bowen, Timothy Carter, Rodney Clark and Paul Hebron. Geoffrey Sherman, ASF's producing artistic director, directs the production.

Both The 39 Steps and Travels With My Aunt will return April 22 through May 19. They will run in repertory with the Merry Wives of Windsor (April 13-May 18) and Henry VIII (April 19-May20).
