Original Broadway Cast Members Of GREAT COMET, BRIGHT STAR, and More Lead Alabama Shakespeare's THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Alabama Shakespeare Festival will present The Sound of Music beginning November 15, 2018, directed by ASF Artistic Director Rick Dildine. The Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse (suggested by "The Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Trapp.)
Courtney Bassett (Great Comet) stars as Maria, alongside Ann Arvia as Mother Abbess (Mary Poppins, Beauty & the Beast), Sandra DeNise as Elsa (Bright Star, Kinky Boots) and Gil Brady (White Christmas National Tour) as Captain von Trapp.
Other cast members include Kevin Ligon as Max (Hello Dolly Revival, Bullets over Broadway & more), and Joy Lynn Jacobs (Ragtime National Tour)
The final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein captures a personal tale of growth and hope. After causing disorder at the abbey, the young nun Maria is sent off to be governess to Captain Von Trapp's seven children. Maria enchants the entire family by teaching the children to sing and the Captain to love again. This delightful musical will thrill audiences with its Tony®, Grammy®, and Academy Award® winning Best Score.
