G&S presents The Pirates of Penzance, directed by Darryl J Spijkers, running at Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. The production remains rooted in Victorian England and true to Gilbert and Sullivan's original text and music, while Spijkers has added theatrical touches that bring extra charm, humour and visual sparkle to the staging. One of the production's playful visual surprises features Mabel imagined as a mermaid when Frederic first sees her, with Frances van Vuuren in the role of Mabel.
