Opera Baltimore presents Pelléas et Mélisande as part of Opera Aperitif, the company's initiative now in its third season, designed to welcome newcomers to opera through a combination of wine tasting, private mansion tours, and live concert opera at the Engineers Club at the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion. The evening features Debussy's own piano reduction of the score, with Gina Perregrino as Mélisande, John Viscardi as Pelléas, and Daniel Scofield as Golaud, under the direction of Claire Choquette and pianist Husan Chun-Novak. A pre-show conversation with opera scholar Dr. Aaron Ziegel places the work within its impressionist historical context. The evening begins at 6:30 PM with a free pre-opera lecture, followed by the mansion tour and wine tasting at 7:00 PM.
