Flyin’ West by Pearl Cleage is a powerful, drama that brings to life the untold stories of Black women who helped shape the American frontier.
Set in 1898 in the all-Black town of Nicodemus, Kansas, the play follows four remarkable women—Sophie, Fannie, Minnie, and Miss Leah—who have journeyed west in search of freedom, land ownership, and the chance to build lives on their own terms. Bound by sisterhood and resilience, they confront the harsh realities of racism, sexism, and the lingering scars of the past.
