Single Carrot Theatre, Baltimore's award-winning ensemble theatre, announces it has selected ensemble member Nathan Cooper as its new Artistic Director.

Nathan Cooper emerged onto the Baltimore scene in 2008 as a Single Carrot Ensemble Member and the company's Director of Finance. As an actor, he's taken on roles for Single Carrot in Killer Joe by Tracy Letts, The Wild Duck by Henrik Ibsen, Crave by Sarah Kane and The Other Shore by Gao Xingjian, and most currently Linus & Alora by Andrew irons. As a director, Cooper helmed Poe Project in 2009 and will direct MilkMilkLemonade by Joshua Conkel for Single Carrot Theatre's upcoming season.

Cooper will replace founding artistic director, and current artistic advisor, J. Buck Jabaily."When I became executive director of GBCA in January 2010 and stepped down as artistic director, I knew how important it was for the next artistic leader of Single Carrot to come from within the ensemble, and to be both simultaneously artistically fearless, and personally generous," said Jabaily. "Nathan Cooper is exactly that, and I'm excited to mentor him in his new role over the next twelve months."

"My focus first and foremost is the ensemble, but I want to ensure that we collaborate with the greater theatre community to develop artistry on a larger scale in Baltimore.", said Cooper, "Baltimore's theatre community is at an exciting place right now; our productions and innovation have gained national and international recognition. I'm excited to further these relationships, and recognize that collaboration is at the heart of continued sustainability.

He'll work alongside Single Carrot executive director Elliott Rauh, who will continue to facilitate the general operation of the organization from an administrative standpoint. Said Rauh of the transition, "Nathan's passion, energy, and commitment to the stage and Baltimore City will help Single Carrot build on the legacy that founding artistic director J. Buck Jabaily started. I will continue to work closely with Nathan and I look forward to the growth, as an organization and as an ensemble of artists, which will occur under his artistic leadership." Wrote Jabaily, "The [selection of a] new artistic director is one of the most important events we've had as a company".

Single Carrot Theatre is currently in rehearsal for the final production of its fourth season and just announced its upcoming season. The 2011/2012 season will be the fifth for the company.
