Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) family theatre, The Fun Company will present El Viaje de Beatriz (Beatriz's Journey). When Beatriz slams into her room to escape a fight with her parents, she turns to Beatrizita, a doll made for her by her recently deceased abuela, for comfort. Beatrizita magically comes to life and sends Beatriz searching for her abuela in Dreamland with nothing but a blank map to guide her. A wondrous adventure begins and along the way she discovers regalitos (little gifts) that her abuela's kindness instilled within her.
El Viaje de Beatriz is a touching tale that explores love and family in a multicultural setting. Audiences will learn about Hispanic traditions in a fun and engaging way as they follow Beatriz along on her journey in this bilingual show. Director Daniel Valentín-Morales was thrilled at the chance to introduce viewers to MET's production. "As the demographics of our community continue to change, and as new folks with different cultures, languages and ways of interpreting the opaque and sometimes unfathomable tenants of the American dream resettle in our communities, an English-Spanish bilingual production such as 'El Viaje de Beatriz' becomes integral in creating bridges between cultures to ensure newcomers are welcomed with love and understanding."Rating/age appropriate/warnings: Family friendly, ages 3+.
