E.M.P. Hosts A GIRL CALLED ESTHER 12/9-11

By:

On December 9-11, 2011, E.M.P. will host A Girl Called Esther, a new play that mixes traditional narrative with explorations in movement and music.

Esther, a behavioral psychologist who thrives on keeping her life in order, is faced with a situation beyond her control when her mother falls into a coma. In a desperate attempt to wake her mother up, Esther forces herself to read the ancient story of Queen Esther aloud to her mother--a story Esther hates and has avoided for years, but one that her mother loves. As she revisits the story of her namesake and begins to lose control, she finds herself face to face with the woman who was challenged by the same question she now faces--can she let go and trust?

Actor Emily Clare Zempel returns to Baltimore in this production. She appeared previously in Wittenberg and Hamlet at Baltimore Shakespeare, or Wittenberg at Rep Stage.

Produced by Spark and Echo Arts. Written by Chris Cragin, based on an original idea by Jonathon Roberts and Emily Clare Zempel. Directed by Emily Ernst. Movement by Deborah Wolfson.
