Single Carrot Theatre is opening its doors for another free event as part of Free Night of Theatre, a national event created and supported by the Theatre Communications Group (TCG).
"While comedy and poetry have always been constant presences in theatre, Single Carrot has never hosted an evening explicitly dedicated to comedy and poetry", says Artistic Director Nathan Cooper. So what makes this event special? Plenty, according to Cooper, "The Comedy and Poetry night has the potential to make you laugh, to make you cry, or to give you a new perspective on life. It's a great opportunity to see some of the best poetry and comedy Baltimore has to offer, and a chance to celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month." The evening's events will include poetry from renowned national and international SLAM champion Gayle Danley, stand-up comedy from ensemble member and local comic
Jessica Garrett, and an improv set from Baltimore's Best Actor
Bruce Nelson and
Joe Brady.
Danley is a highly regarded poet and public speaker, touring Baltimore and beyond performing for audiences young and old. Her energetic style makes her one of the most coveted performers in the area. Nelson and Brady are staples on the Baltimore Theatre scene. Nelson's acting awards are numerable and his reputation as a theatrical force is highly regarded both in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. His talents combine with those of local director, actor, and Second City trained improviser
Joe Brady to create a two-man improv team. Garrett can be seen on stage as both an actor and a comic in Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and in her native Denver, Colorado.
