The film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical JERSEY BOYS will hit theaters on June 20th. Directed by Clint Eastwood, JERSEY BOYS, written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, features the music and lyrics of Bob Gaudio & Bob Crewe. Just yesterday, the Angelo Galasso House at The Plaza (768 Fifth Avenue) hosted a special New York City screening of the new film, and BroadwayWorld was there for the big event. Musical theatre performers MARY LOU BARBER, EDWARD PLEASANT and BEN RAUCH performed dramatic readings of excerpts from The Very Reverend James Parks Morton's forthcoming memoir at the 12th Annual James Parks Morton Interfaith Awards gala last week, June 5 at the New York Hilton Midtown. This is the first time in the history of the Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) awards dinner that a theatrical event has been presented. Kenneth Branagh's highly-anticipated New York stage debut in an immersive and visceral staging of Macbeth at the Park Avenue Armory officially opened last night, June 5. On Tuesday June 3, Hinton Battle unveiled a new chapter in his career when 54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club presented SOMETHING NEW, a performance introducing his soon to be released new CD, by the same name. With his unique take on classic tunes, Battle pays tribute to the genius of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis and honors the memory of some of his dance contemporaries and legendary tap dancers that have influenced his career.

Extensive window displays as well as a storewide presentation of Broadway memorabilia run through June 30th at thePaul Stuart flagship located at Madison Avenue at 45th Street. The exhibit features photography by Martha Swope(the celebrated chronicler of Broadway and only photographer to ever be presented a Tony Award), illustrations byKen Fallin (whose great caricatures of Broadway theatre regularly grace the pages of The Wall Street Journal), and both design sketches and a carefully curated selection of the costumes designed by 5 time Tony winner (and Chairman of the American Theatre Wing) William Ivey Long. In 1994, Bette Midler returned to New York after nearly 20 years in Los Angeles, and started the New York Restoration Project, a non-profit organization devoted to bringing abandoned and neglected parks, gardens, and open spaces in all five boroughs back to life. NYRP includes the beautiful New Leaf Cafe in Fort Tryon Park as part of its success, and is committed to helping restore parks and gardens devastated by Hurricane Sandy. As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, America's Poet Laureate Maya Angelou has passed away at the age of 86. The poet died last night, May 27th in a Winston-Salem, North Carolina hospital while recovering from an 'unexpected ailment'. She died surrounded by her family. Below, BroadwayWorld remembers the legend.

The Theatre Museum awarded its 2014 Theatre Museum Awards for Excellence at the Players Club, on Tuesday May 27, 2014. The mission of The Theatre Museum is to preserve, protect, and perpetuate the legacy of the theatre. It is the first and only chartered non profit museum dedicated to the history of Theatre. Since 1995 The Awards for Excellence have recognized individuals and organizations for their contribution to theater arts, education, theater history and preservation.

For the past five seasons, Barrett Foa has co-starred opposite LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell as tech geek Eric Beale on CBS' top-rated hit series 'NCIS: Los Angeles' which is currently the #2 show on television. Buyer & Cellar, now in its second smash year, recouped its initial investment faster than any Off-Broadway show in recent history, is written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Stephen Brackett.
