On Monday Nights the Pirates in 'Pirates of Penzance' (the mega hit now playing at Barrington Stage Company) are resting but the set on the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage in Pittsfield was the perfect setting for one of the theatre's most perfectly matched couples. 

Lillias White brought her music director, arranger, and vocal accomplice Billy Stritch to William Finn's Cabaret at Barrington Stage Company last night and BroadwayWorld was there.  The title of her show, The Lillias White Effect is entirely fact-based as Ms. White and Mr. Stritch had a bedazzling effect on the Berkshire audience in Mr. Finn's Cabaret.

Shakespeare & Company presented Liz Duffy Adams' playful comedy OR, based on the real life of Britain's first female playwright, Aphra Behn, last night and BroadwayWorld was there. Directed by Alice Reagen and featuring Company actress, Tod Randolph, as Aphra, Allyn Burrows as King Charles and Nehassaiu deGannes as Nell Gwynne. The production runs through September 4th in the Tina Packer Playhouse and is staged in-the-round.

BUTLER, inspired by controversial Civil War General Benjamin Butler, premiered last night as part of the 5A Season at 59E59 Theaters and Broadwayworld was there and at the after party at Le Cirque

Tails wagged at Feinstein's/54 Below as New York's favorite baker, Amy's Bread unveiled a new offering in it's popular Chef Sandwiches for Good charity program.  The latest creation by Chef Lynn Bound of Feinstein's/54 Below is the light and healthy "Broadway Beets" sandwich made with roasted beets, pickled vegetables, Camembert cheese and baby kale, served on a New York State Whole Wheat Seeded Sandwich Roll by Amy's Bread.  

Beloved stage and screen star Tony Danza (TV's 'Taxi' & 'Who's The Boss'; Broadway's Honeymoon In Vegas) and his band made their first of 6 performances at Feinstein's/54 Below last night and BroadwayWorld was there. Tony Danza: Standards & Stories will play six performances only: July 26, 27, August 9, September 8 & 9 at 7pm and August 10 at 9:30pm.

Ann Hampton Callaway & Amanda McBroom, two of the most celebrated song-writing Divas, brought their show Devalicious to Barrington Stage Company last night and Broadwayworld was there. The Divas are taking the show to London and the Pittsfield audience was treated to an exciting evening of original and Great American Songbook tunes.  Ann and Amanda are also known for their wit and humor as well as their beautiful music and the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage had it all last night.

Direct from two sold out critically acclaimed London productions I Loved Lucy gave a one night only benefit performance for Abingdon Theatre Company at The Lucille Lortel Theatre on July 21 and BroadwayWorld was there.

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, announced the creation of The Wolfson Theater Center, at 122 North Street, Pittsfield, MA. and Broadwayworld was there. The center is made possible through a generous gift from Jessie and Bernard Wolfson, and will serve as the center of BSC operations. Renovations on the building are set to begin in August 2016, with the administrative offices set to relocate in November 2016. BSC's current office space, known as Octagon House (58 Union Street), will be converted into company housing. A.J. Schnopp Jr. Construction Inc., of Dalton, MA, will be the general contractor.

Fyvush Finkel returned to Mr. Finn's Cabaret at Barrington Stage Company last night and Broadwayworld was there.

The Skivvies performed  their stripped down show at Helsinki Hudson last night and Broadwayworld was there.

They could never leave you. Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner are UNATTACHED! and Broadwayworld was there as they teared the paint off the walls of Feinstein's/54 Below with both new material and some of their old favorites.

Stars are born on Broadway and at Feinstein's/54 Below with startling regularity. With her astonishing rendition of the classic, A Star is Born, Molly Pope provided a never to be forgotten evening of songs from the classic film last night and BroadwayWorld was there. 

Usually the microphone he holds is used for talking, but Emmy winning talk show host and interviewer supreme Bill Boggs sang to a packed house at Le Cirque last night.  

The magic of Venice was in the air at Shakespeare & Company last night.   After a stirring performance of The Merchant of Venice, directed by Tina Packer in the Tina Packer Playhouse, it was cocktails, dinner, and dancing under the stars on the beautiful campus of Shakespeare & Company.   Guests mingled with actors and dignitaries at the annual Gala and BroadwayWorld was there.  The play runs through August 21st. Check out the photos below.

Former Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, journalist Ted Koppel, invited dignitaries, and special guests came together for a stirring public reading of one of the most potent and influential documents in history. They read the Declaration of Independence at the annual Shakespeare & Company All-American Independence Day Celebration.   

Shakespeare & Company opened its 39th Performance Season on  May 27 with the regional premiere of The Tamingand Broadwayworld was there for one of the performances. Written by award-winning playwright Lauren Gunderson, and directed by Company veteran Nicole Ricciardi, the outlandish and politically charged comedy is playing at the Elayne Bernstein Theatre running through July 30, 2016.

Unlike those TV competitions which have arguable talent and hyped elimination dramatics, The Eighth New York International Piano Competition presented by The Stecher Horowitz Foundation is just the opposite.  From June 19-24 at The Manhattan School of Music, twenty two phenomenally talented young pianists ages 16-21 from around the world made some of the greatest music one can hear - and and they all won.

Rita Coolidge's credentials are the stuff of legend. After earning a degree in art at Florida State University, the Tennessee native decided to give music a shot before settling into a career as an art teacher. She moved to Memphis and was soon singing jingles, demos and background vocals for a number of area bands. Among them was a husband and wife duo, Delaney & Bonnie. When the pair signed their record deal, Rita suddenly found herself on big-time pop music's leading edge. Her reputation as an A-list backup singer spread quickly. Joe Cocker enlisted her in that role and as a featured soloist on his Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. (Rita performed a song she'd co-written, ?Superstar,? which would later be a huge hit for The Carpenters.) Work with other rock royalty followed, including tours and recordings with Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell and Stephen Stills. In 1971, A&M Records moguls Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss signed her to the label, and one of the most enduring solo careers in all of music was underway.
