Jessica Lewis Jessica has worked in theater for nearly ten years. She has worked in theatrical production for the producers of STOMP, DAMN YANKEES, NUNSENSE, DINNER WITH FRIENDS and more, and for over 5 years has been involved in the Whoopi Goldberg-produced White Noise, having discovered the production at the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival. She has since helped foster its growth through multiple large-scale workshops and two major commercial productions as an Associate Producer. After dedicating many years to theatrical and live entertainment production work that has taken her all over the world in 2009 she assumed the post of Senior Managing Editor at BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theater site on the net, for which she controls operations, routinely interviews Broadway's A-list talent and films/edits a bulk of the sites popular BWW TV content. She is a graduate of Brown University and has worked professionally in production for the Brown University Department of Theatre, Speech and Dance, Rights and Reasons Theatre, the New York Theatre Workshop and more.




Taymor's TEMPEST to Highlight NY Film Fest., Oct. 2

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, Julie Taymor is at the helm of a new film adaptation of THE TEMPEST, to be released this December. The film was shot in Hawaii with stars Helen Mirren (Prospera), Alfred Molina (Stephano), Ben Whishaw (Ariel), Felicity Jones (Miranda), Russell Brand (Trinculo), Djimon Hounsou (Caliban), Alan Cumming (Sebastian), Chris Cooper (Antonio), and David Strathairn (Alonso). The New York Times reports today that the film will in fact be the main attraction at this year's New York Film Festival, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in October. The film will get a special screening on October 2, 2010 at Alice Tully Hall.

The world of Cold War intrigue, forbidden love, and 1980s rock rules when the legendary musical Chess , by the composers of Mamma Mia!, plays Signature Theatre, August 10 through September 26. The first major American production in almost 20 years-and the Washington region's very first professional production-stars Broadway's Jill Paice (Curtains), Euan Morton (Boy George in Taboo), and Jeremy Kushnier (Footloose) in the Russian/American conflict made new again. The Ogunquit Playhouse is the first fully staged Regional theatre in the nation to produce an all new production of Sunset Boulevard starring Stefanie Powers as Norma Desmond, July 28 through August 14, complete with the Tony Nominated costumes by the Academy Award winning designer, Anthony Powell and an all new set designed exclusively for the Ogunquit stage by Todd Ivins. This musical is based on the film noir classic by Billy Wilder that starred Gloria Swanson and William Holden. It is the winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and features some of Andrew Lloyd Webber's loveliest melodies including, 'With One Look' and 'As If We Never Said Goodbye.' Safe Space, an agency that serves at-risk children and families in Queens, is proud to announce that professional performers from Broadway in South Africa have agreed to participate in a free community concert at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, starting at 7 p.m. The stars will teach -- and then perform with -- youth from Safe Space's programs.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that LOMBARDI producers Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser have donated $7,000 to local sports and arts programs in thanks of their support of the incoming Broadway production. LOMBARDI is currently running at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center where it has played all week. The final performance is tonight, July 28 in that location before making the move to Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre.

Former 'Saturday Night Live' cast member and writer Colin Quinn will return to the New York City scene when he debuts his new one-man show 'Colin Quinn Long Story Short' directed by Jerry Seinfeld. Due to popular demand, the show will extend its run through Saturday, September 4 at the Bleecker Street Theatre (located at 45 Bleecker Street between Bowery and Lafayette Street). The production began performances on Saturday, June 19th and will now play an eleven week limited engagement.

The BBC reports that stage and screen star Judi Dench will pay special tribute to Stephen Sondheim on July 31, 2010 as part of the Sondheim at 80 BBC Proms event, celebrating the composer's 80th birthday. Dench will perform her rendition of 'Send In the Clowns' from A Little Night Music, which she claims to be 'hugely exciting' but 'daunting.' The song selection for the actress was a no-brainer, as allegedly, 'On hearing Dame Judi's performance of Send In The Clowns at the National Theatre in 1995, Sondheim is said to have told the acclaimed actress: 'It's yours now.'
