Producer Scott Sanders will be bringing film and television icon Pee-wee Herman (Paul Reubens) will bring his signature brand of hilarious mayhem to Broadway for a special six-week limited engagement of the acclaimed stage play, The Pee-wee Herman Show.
Based on Reubens' 1981 cult classic stage production, The Pee-wee Herman Show, with new elements from the ground-breaking CBS show 'Pee-wee's Playhouse' added generously, this new production is written by Paul Reubens and Bill Steinkellner, with additional material by John Paragon. Directed by Alex Timbers (Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson), The Pee-wee Herman Show will feature music by Jay Cotton and the work of renowned puppetry artist Basil Twist. Direct from its acclaimed, sold-out run in Los Angeles, The Pee-wee Herman Show will begin its 48-performance limited run on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 and officially open on Thursday, November 11 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd street). The engagement will run through December 5.

'Sondheim: The Birthday Concert' PBS Special Gets Nov. DVD ReleaseJuly 23, 2010As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, The New York Philharmonic's SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert, which took place on March 15-16, 2010 at Avery Fisher Hall, will be broadcast on THIRTEEN'S Great Performances on PBS on Wednesday, November 24 (check local listings). WNET, Channel 13 in New York City, will air the concert at 9:30 p.m. that evening.
The concert includes songs and orchestral pieces from Sondheim musical theater favorites such as Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, Into the Woods, and Sunday in the Park with George. Today, it has been announced that in addition to the PBS telecast, the concert will be released on DVD in November by Image Entertainment.
Photo Flash: Signature Reveals Art for 'ANGELS' - First Look!July 23, 2010The Signature Theatre has released the artwork (below left) for its upcoming production of Tony Kushner's ANGELS IN AMERICA, The New York Times reveals. The play will open Off Broadway on September 14. Milton Glaser, who created the art for the original Broadway production (below right), also created the new artwork.

Kaller to Helm THE GREAT GAME on Broadway in 2011-2012July 22, 2010Producers Randall L. Wreghitt (The Miracle Worker, Grey Gardens, Lieutenant of Inishmore) and Jana Robbins (Ragtime, Little Women - The Musical) have announced that they will bring The Great Game, a new drama/play by D. Tucker Smith, to Broadway in the 2011-2012 season. Tony nominated director Sheryl Kaller (Next Fall, Adrift in Macao) will direct the production. Casting and theatre will be announced in the weeks to come.
STAGE TUBE: Blonsky's 'Huge' 'Movie Night' Episode Sneak Peek!July 22, 2010ABC Family premiered 'Huge' on Monday, June 28th, at 9 pm ET/P starring Nikki Blonsky from the movie adaptation of Hairspray. This new series is developed by Winnie Holzman ('Wicked,' 'My So-Called Life,' 'Once & Again') and her daughter Savannah Dooley.
Blonsky stars as Willamina aka Will, an opinionated, sardonic non-conformist who is not happy that her parents sent her to Camp Victory, a weight loss camp run by Dr. Rand, played by Gina Torres ('Firefly'). The cast also includes Hayley Hasselhoff as Amber, Zander Eckhouse as George, Stefan Van Ray as Trent, Harvey Guillen as Alistair, Ari Stidham as Ian, Raven Goodwin as Becca and Ashley Holliday as Chloe. PIAZZA's Guettel to Compose for HBO's 'Miraculous' Pilot Starring Butz, LuPone, Langella et al. July 21, 2010As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, Tony Award winners Eddie Redmayne, Frank Langella and Patti LuPone and Tony nominees Stark Sands and Hope Davis will be a part of the cast of The Miraculous Year, HBO's new drama pilot for about 'a charismatic, self-destructive Broadway composer,' written by Red scribe John Logan, reportedly inspired by Stephen Sondheim. The Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow is directing the pilot, which begins shooting this summer. Both Logan and Bigelow are also executive producing the piece.
WITH GLEE Extends at the Kirk at Theater RowJuly 21, 2010With Glee, a new, old-fashioned musical comedy about five wayward, eccentric, isolated, awkward, sweet, naive, nerdy teenage boys who are sent away to a boarding school in Maine, has extended for four performances at the Kirk Theater at Theater Row. The production will now close the evening of August 4, as opposed to after the matinee on August 1 as originally scheduled. The production opened to complimentary notices on July 10 and has been selling out.
