The Drama League opened it doors at their new space on May 23rd with a ribbon cutting hosted by Judith Light. The focal point of The DramaLeague Theater Center is the Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley Studio Lab, a brand-new laboratory/development space for theater artists to create and hone work for future productions. It will also act as a flexible multi-purpose space for a variety of programming including educational opportunities, audience-focused series and special events. This will allow the Drama League to better serve the entire New York theater community - directors, audience, playwrights and actors. The Drama League Theater Center will offer artist residencies, play readings, open rehearsals, developmental workshops, lectures, classes, seminars, discussions, conferences, theatre-focused social gatherings and more.

The Group Theatre Too (GTT) recently presented its sixth annual Choreographer's Canvas, a one-night event featuring the works of over fifteen established and emerging choreographers from around the country. The Canvas, headed by GTT Executive Producer Justin Boccitto, played at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center on Saturday May 18th and showcased many styles of dance including tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, theatre dance, aerial and this year swing dance. For the past 6 years the Canvas has presented over 65 choreographers, giving opportunity to over 450 dancers performing to sold houses. Check out photos from the event below!

The Public Theater presents the world premiere of OLD-FASHIONED PROSTITUTES (A TRUE ROMANCE), currently in previews. Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced that Thembisile Gxuluwe from West Mifflin Area High School near Pittsburgh has won first place at the 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition held on Monday, May 6th at at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). Pablo Lopez from Los Angeles was the runner-up, and an honorable mention went to Branndin Phillips-Laramorefrom Chicago. The event, which was free and open to the public, featured high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright.

If It Only Even Runs A Minute 11 is the eleventh edition of the Bistro Award-winning series of rare songs, behind-the-scenes tales, and inspiring photos from Broadway musicals that may not have been fully appreciated the first time around. During Musicals in our Schools Week, Monday, March 18 through Monday, March 25, students, educators, industry leaders and community members advocate for the importance of quality arts programs in schools through grassroots efforts like organizing a flash mob, giving a free public performance from a Spring musical or sending a thank you note to an educator via letter, internet, video or kind deed.

At last night's Theatre Development Fund Gala, they celebrated the 40th Anniversary of TDF's TKTS Booth in Times Square - which first opened on June 25, 1973, and honoring The Shubert Organization's Chairman and Co-CEO, PHILIP J. SMITH who was involved with the founding of TKTS.

Just yesterday, Kids' Night on Broadway kicks off at the immersive and educational Discovery Times Square; where there were unique theatre activities including: Autograph Alley with Broadway performers, a dance workshop with Revolucion Latina, Broadway Karaoke, stage makeup demonstrations, craft activities and much more including a free theatre activity guide. The Broadway Green Alliance also collected plastic bottle caps (plastic and metal) to incorporate in to the set for the new production of Peter and the Starcatcher Off-Broadway. Broadway's Julie Halston hosted the Third Annual Broadway Belts for PFF! to benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) last night, February 25 at Birdland Jazz Club (315 West 44th Street) as part of Broadway at Birdland series.
