San Francisco's African-American Shakespeare Company has announced the lineup for its 18th season. The season marks African-American Shakespeare Company's third season under the artistic leadership of acclaimed actor and director L. Peter Callender. The season opens in December with an enchanting holiday production of CINDERELLA; this new take on the timeless fairytale has become a seasonal favorite for families and children of all ages. The season continues in March with William Shakespeare's quintessential comedy MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR. Closing the season in April is Tennessee Williams's Pulitzer Prize-winning CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. Productions will be staged at the Buriel Clay Theater at the African American Art & Culture Complex in San Francisco. Subscriptions for the 2012-13 season go on sale May 12.

Chocolate abounds at Theater Works with the production of Willy Wonka Kids. Willy Wonka shares his riddles, rattles, and sweet fiddle-faddles with 5 kids who win a contest by finding the precious golden tickets in Roald Dahl's classic. This Kids Alive! At Theater Works production is sponsored by Cerreta Candy Company of Glendale and three lucky winners at each performance will receive VIP passes for a tour and chocolate pizza-making workshop. In conjunction with the 2012 Presidential Election, no fewer than 44 theatres, colleges, and high schools from all over the country will produce 44 Plays for 44 Presidents as part of the Plays for Presidents Festival 2012. The Festival will culminate in simultaneous election night events and an online composite video production of 44 Plays for 44 Presidents made up of contributions from all 44 productions. Productions have been confirmed at venues ranging from Geva Theatre Center to Little Rock Central High School, slotting the show in 22 different states.

Tom Hanks will make his Broadway Debut in LUCKY GUY by Nora Ephron, according to Michael Riedel of the New York Post. The play, previously titled Stories About McAlary, centers on the life of the late New York Post and Daily News columnist Mike McAlary. A full production of the revised script directed by George C. Wolfe is slated for a limited run at the Shubrt theater in January.

Stephen Sondheim's musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd, stars Olivier Award winner Michael Ball as the infamous demon barber of Fleet Street and Oscar-nominated actress Imelda Staunton as his devoted accomplice Mrs. Lovett. Following sell-out success at Chichester Festival Theatre, the production transferred to London's West End on 10 March, 2012 for a limited season only, and must end on 22 September, 2012. Comedian Jason Manford will join the company as "Italian" barber Pirelli for four weeks in July this year, covering for Robert Burt, who is scheduled to sing at Glyndebourne Festival 2012.

A Wicked Gala, a 'Wickedly Magical Evening in Oz,' takes place on Saturday, May 19, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Sacramento Convention Center Ballroom, 1400 J Street in Sacramento, will be transformed for the evening into the "Oz Dust Ballroom," themed after the hit Broadway show Wicked, which begins performances at Community Center Theater on May 23.

From truck beds to basements to coffee shops and rooftops, William Shakespeare's words will electrify the city with the 3rd annual Shake 38 beginning on Friday, May 18, and culminating with the Bard's preview performance of "Othello" on Wednesday, May 23 at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. "Othello" is the Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' 12th annual production of free theater in an outdoor setting at the park.
