On Tuesday, May 25, vocalist Livia Devereux and her band will perform at The Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd St, NYC). Starting at 7 pm, the band for this performance will feature Sarah Jane Cion on piano, Anthony Masi on saxophone, Tony Ventura on acoustic bass and Kirk Devereux on drums. Livia is celebrating the release of her new CD "Night Winds Whisper".

HERE presents Ex.Pgirl's Paris Syndrome, Thursday, June 3 - Saturday, June 19 at HERE Arts Center. The show depicts the real-life phenomenon of the extreme culture shock experienced by some Japanese women when visiting Paris. Created by Bertie Ferdman and Suzi Takahashi and directed by Emma Griffin, this production's official opening night is set for Saturday, June 5 at 8:30 PM.

Houston Grand Opera Studio artist, Nathaniel Peake won the Zarzuela prize and Studio alumnus Ryan McKinny won the Birgit Nilsson prize at Placido Domingo's Operalia competition on Sunday, May 2. The weeklong worldwide competition took place this year at famed Milanese opera house Teatro alla Scala- this was the first time the contest has been hosted in Italy.

On Sunday, May 9 at 3pm, in conjunction with New York Gallery Week, Murray Guy Gallery will host a screening and conversation with Patricia Esquivias and curators Fionn Meade and Manuela Moscoso. This solo exhibition will feature the premiere of two video installations, Folklore III and Natures at the Hand. Both works in the show are promiscuous lectures that wander through images and texts and diverse media, where banal details are transformed into deep reflections on modernity, colonialism, and the natural world.

The Museum of Modern Art presents Art Institutions and Feminist Politics Now, a day-long symposium on May 21, 2010, that will bring together an international group of leading artists, writers, curators, historians, and activists to explore the impact of recent debates about art and feminism on museum exhibitions, collections, pedagogy, and cultural politics. The symposium is part of a major ongoing collection-based research initiative begun in 2005 with support from the Modern Women's Fund, established by philanthropist and artist Sarah Peter.

Starting this weekend, Friday, May 7, Chicago Street Theatre, Yeager's Greenhouse, and the Special Olympics are partnering up for a Plant and Flower Sale. The sale will be open for the remaining May weekends. Chicago Street Theatre partnered with Yeager's Greenhouses last spring and sold flowers, vegetables and herbs at the theatre. The proceeds benefited the theatre and local greenhouse. This year, for a second time, the theatre is again partnering with the Greenhouse, in addition to the Special Olympics. There will be a huge variety to choose from including: flats, hanging baskets, pre-made pots, gerbera daisies, impatiens, geraniums, wave petunias and much more.

On Saturday, April 24, nearly 700 business and arts leaders attended the Arts Council's 13th Annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County at the Jim Rous Theatre in Columbia, Maryland. This year's annual benefit gala raised over $77,000 and an additional $80,000 in donated goods and services for the arts in Howard County.

Today, May 4, Plan-B Theatre Company announced its 2010-11 Season. Productions scheduled include SHE WAS MY BROTHER, as well as the World Premieres of MESA VERDE, BORDERLANDS, and AND THE BANNED SLAMMED ON. The 2010-11 season marks the 20th anniversary of the first Plan-B production in 1991. 12 of the past 15 Plan-B productions have enjoyed sold-out runs.
