Tonight, April 29, Cornelia Street Cafe presents Eric Plaks Trio at 6 pm and a reading of NOTES ON A SCANDAL at 8:30 pm. In celebration of his recent CD release, the young Eric Plaks will perform on the piano. NOTES ON A SCANDAL: A READING will parody the 2006 film with the same title.

Today, April 29, The Hartt School of the University of Hartford in Connecticut announced that Tony Award Nominee, Marin Ireland is the recipient of the 2010 Hartt Alumni Award. The award will be conferred on Ms. Ireland, who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Hartt School in 2000, during Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 16, 2010.

The Actor's Lab in Charlotte, NC presents an Advanced Teen Class with L.A. acting coach, J.D. Lewis - Tuesdays from 4:45 - 6:30 pm. Acorn Productions, presenters of the "Naked Shakespeare" series, announces plans for the first annual Westbrook Shakespeare Festival, to take place May 14 to 23 at Riverbank Park in Westbrook, Maine. The Westbrook Shakespeare Festival will feature 2 different outdoor productions by Naked Shakespeare actors in repertory over 2 weekends. The featured presentation is AS YOU LIKE IT, directed by Michael Howard, which will be presented as a full-length production Friday through Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m. AS YOU LIKE IT is a classic comedy of disguise, in which Rosalind, one of Shakespeare's strongest female characters, dresses as a man when she is exiled to the forest of Arden along with her cousin Celia. Theater-goers are invited to bring a picnic or purchase a fresh taste of the old Southwest from the event's sponsor, the Blue Burrito, who will be doing concessions for the performances. Acorn's production of Shakespeare's classic tragedy ROMEO AND JULIET, directed by Karen Ball, will be shown weekend afternoons at 2 p.m. This heart-breaking tale of teenage love has been substantially abridged to run about 90-minutes and is the final project of the Young Actors Shakespeare Conservatory, a training program for local teen actors that began meeting in the fall of 2009. Admission to all performances at the Westbrook Shakespeare Festival is free, with a $5 suggested donation for ROMEO AND JULIET and $10 for AS YOU LIKE IT.

It was announced yesterday, April 28, that this spring, NYC Parks will launch the Greeter Corps, a volunteer team of ambassadors whose job it is to represent Parks in the community. Today, April 29, Philadelphia Music Theater Works has announced full casting for the musical SIDE SHOW. They will present a stage reading - modeled after New York's City Center Encores - of Bill Russell and Henry Kreiger's play; July 1-3, 2010. Philly Music Theater Works' mounting of the Broadway musical will be its Philadelphia regional premiere.

CATS, the popular musical, set to open May 18 at the Lyric Theatre in Perth, will open tickets for its final week (June 7-13) on May 3. CATS has now extended to Sunday, June 13. No further extension is possible as CATS must head back to Asia.

It was announced Wednesday, April 28, that Shadowbox Cabaret's original musical, BACK TO THE GARDEN has officially become the company's most successful musical. Currently in its second extension, the show has grossed more than double its closest comparison, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, which ran originally in the fall of 2006 and was revived in the summer of 2007. THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW was performed for a total of 1,771 patrons and made $52,346. BACK TO THE GARDEN has been seen by 3,866 people and grossed $133,434 so far. There are still six performances left, before it closes on May 23rd.

The Tennessee Performing Arts Center announces the installation of an Art*O*Mat® machine, located on Center Landing between the lobbies of Andrew Jackson Hall and James K. Polk Theater. One of 88 worldwide, and one of only two in Tennessee, the Art*O*Mat is a vintage cigarette machine that has been repurposed to dispense one-of-a-kind artwork.

In his continuing commitment to education and to encouraging young people to experience music, New York Philharmonic Music Director, Alan Gilbert will conduct the Orchestra's six School Day Concerts for the first time, Wednesday-Friday, May 19-21, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Mr. Gilbert is the first Philharmonic Music Director to lead these performances since Zubin Mehta did so in February 1991.
