Today, April 29, Philadelphia Music Theater Works has announced full casting for the musical SIDE SHOW. They will present a stage reading - modeled after New York's City Center Encores - of Bill Russell and Henry Kreiger's play; July 1-3, 2010. Philly Music Theater Works' mounting of the Broadway musical will be its Philadelphia regional premiere.

The Court Theatre presents THE SEAGULL, opening Saturday, May 15 and running thru Saturday, June 12. Written by Anton Chekhov, THE SEAGULL follows a successful actress on holiday at her brother's country estate with her son, an aspiring writer, lover and her friends. Chekhov follows their lives as passions and dreams entwine in a world of beauty, cruelty and humanity.

CATS, the popular musical, set to open May 18 at the Lyric Theatre in Perth, will open tickets for its final week (June 7-13) on May 3. CATS has now extended to Sunday, June 13. No further extension is possible as CATS must head back to Asia.

It was announced Wednesday, April 28, that Shadowbox Cabaret's original musical, BACK TO THE GARDEN has officially become the company's most successful musical. Currently in its second extension, the show has grossed more than double its closest comparison, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, which ran originally in the fall of 2006 and was revived in the summer of 2007. THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW was performed for a total of 1,771 patrons and made $52,346. BACK TO THE GARDEN has been seen by 3,866 people and grossed $133,434 so far. There are still six performances left, before it closes on May 23rd.

The Tennessee Performing Arts Center announces the installation of an Art*O*Mat® machine, located on Center Landing between the lobbies of Andrew Jackson Hall and James K. Polk Theater. One of 88 worldwide, and one of only two in Tennessee, the Art*O*Mat is a vintage cigarette machine that has been repurposed to dispense one-of-a-kind artwork.

Catch The Rendezvous on the last Thursday of every month beginning May 27 at King King in Hollywood. Their new cabaret, 'Sex, love and rock 'n' roll' is Directed and Choreographed by Lindsley Allen, member of The Actors' Gang and former Pussy Cat Doll. The show fuses burlesque with Commedia in a new cabaret that stars dance troupe, Cherry Boom Boom.

The Bishop Arts Theater Center (BATC) Presents Marc Antoine, Brian Simpson & Tom Braxton on Saturday, May 8. The three performers continue the 2010 Jazz Series with two shows - 7 and 9:45 pm.

Theatre Charlotte Presents a one day acting workshop for preteens, teens and adults, Saturday, May 1 from 12-4 pm. Taught by audition coach and Director, Helen Kearney Konen, the workshop will feature lessons on script interpretation, as well as characterization for scenes and commercials.

In his continuing commitment to education and to encouraging young people to experience music, New York Philharmonic Music Director, Alan Gilbert will conduct the Orchestra's six School Day Concerts for the first time, Wednesday-Friday, May 19-21, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Mr. Gilbert is the first Philharmonic Music Director to lead these performances since Zubin Mehta did so in February 1991.

CHESKY RECORDS will be releasing Invitation [SACD348], the debut album of vocalist, Beat Kaestli, on April 13, 2010. Beat Kaestli will celebrate the release of his CHESKY RECORDS debut, Invitation [SACD348], with a show at Birdland Jazz Club on Thursday, April 29th, 2010 at 6 pm. Invitation [SACD348] features Billy Drummond on drums, Jay Leonhart on bass, Paul Meyers on guitar, Joel Frahm on saxophone and Kenny Rampton on Trumpet. Invitation [SACD348] marks the first release for CHESKY RECORDS in 2010.

In this evening's performance (April 27) of Rossini's ARMIDA, Barry Banks will sing the role of Gernando, replacing Jose Manuel Zapata, who is ill. Banks will also sing the role of Carlo, which he was already scheduled to perform. The character of Gernando only appears in Act I, and Carlo only appears in Act III, which makes it possible for the roles to be performed by one singer.

On Monday, May 10 and May 17, Broadway performer, Niki Scalera will perform at The Laurie Beechman Theatre in the West Bank Cafe at 7 pm. Niki will be celebrating the life and career of Dame Shirley Bassey. Best known in the states for singing the James Bond theme song 'Goldfinger', Shirley Bassey's career has spanned the decades, making her the most successful female British recording artist of all time. Ms. Scalera takes you on a biopic ride throughout Shirley's career and truly answers the question, 'What makes a dame?'

GAN-e-meed Theatre Project launches their first season with a modern interpretation of Shakespeare's HAMLET featuring an all-female cast, performing May 7-30. In honor of Mother's Day, tickets for mothers for opening weekend (May 7-9) are $10. Producing Artistic Director SerahRose Roth leads the cast as the prince who, charged with a mission by his father's ghost, must unravel his family's mysteries with spies lurking at every turn. Director Christopher Webb has created a stripped-down version which exposes the core of passion, manipulation, and the many poisons of families.

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center Presents the Azar Lawrence Sextet on Friday, May 7 at 8:30 pm. The group's performances is part 1 of the Lost Jazz Shrines Series, celebrating Ali's Alley. This opening night concert will be a tribute to the late Rashied Ali in the spirit of his Ali's Alley. Performing that evening will be an artist who performed there frequently and on whose next release Rashied Ali drummed - saxophonist Azar Lawrence.

The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) announced today, April 27, that the Bronx Week Food and Arts Festival will host the 27th Annual Bronxboro Arm Wrestling Championships and crowning of The Bronx Strongest Arm on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Bronx Week Festival on Mosholu Parkway South between Van Cortlandt Ave. East and Bainbridge Ave. Bronx, NY. 10458. Citizens of the Universe, presents the first of their 'classics' series- UNCLE VANYA, May 13th through the 16th and 19th through the 22nd at Story Slam. UNCLE VANYA is Directed by James Cartee, and stars Colby Davis, Lou Dalessandro, Annette Saunders, Jim Esposito, Suzannah Kimbrel, Caitlin Colbani, and James Lee Walker.

The Lark Play Development Center will host French-African playwright Koffi Kwahulé in New York City on May 13 and 14. Free public readings of Kwahulé's play, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC, translated by Chantal Bilodeau will be presented at the Lark Studio. The readings are part of Lark's 7 year project to translate, develop, and publish seven of Kwahulé's plays in an effort to both encourage international exchange and to bring to the forefront a unique theatrical voice.

The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines announced today, April 27, that it will be introducing two new youth summer camps as part of the Civic Center's education and community engagement programs. The camps are designed to provide participants ranging in age from 6 to 19 with unique and lasting theater experiences facilitated by professional artists.

Performance Network Theatre presents storyteller, LaRon Williams, on Saturday, May 15 at 1pm. The all-ages show, part of the Children's Theatre Network's Saturday Series for Young Audiences, will be followed by a milk and cookies reception.
