Today, April 29, Philadelphia Music Theater Works has announced full casting for the musical SIDE SHOW. They will present a stage reading - modeled after New York's City Center Encores - of Bill Russell and Henry Kreiger's play; July 1-3, 2010. Philly Music Theater Works' mounting of the Broadway musical will be its Philadelphia regional premiere.

CATS, the popular musical, set to open May 18 at the Lyric Theatre in Perth, will open tickets for its final week (June 7-13) on May 3. CATS has now extended to Sunday, June 13. No further extension is possible as CATS must head back to Asia.

BACK TO THE GARDEN Becomes Shadowbox Caberet's Most Successful Musical

It was announced Wednesday, April 28, that Shadowbox Cabaret's original musical, BACK TO THE GARDEN has officially become the company's most successful musical. Currently in its second extension, the show has grossed more than double its closest comparison, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, which ran originally in the fall of 2006 and was revived in the summer of 2007. THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW was performed for a total of 1,771 patrons and made $52,346. BACK TO THE GARDEN has been seen by 3,866 people and grossed $133,434 so far. There are still six performances left, before it closes on May 23rd.

The Tennessee Performing Arts Center announces the installation of an Art*O*Mat® machine, located on Center Landing between the lobbies of Andrew Jackson Hall and James K. Polk Theater. One of 88 worldwide, and one of only two in Tennessee, the Art*O*Mat is a vintage cigarette machine that has been repurposed to dispense one-of-a-kind artwork.

Their new cabaret, 'Sex, love and rock 'n' roll' is Directed and Choreographed by Lindsley Allen, member of The Actors' Gang and former Pussy Cat Doll. The show fuses burlesque with Commedia in a new cabaret that stars dance troupe, Cherry Boom Boom.

Mr. Gilbert is the first Philharmonic Music Director to lead these performances since Zubin Mehta did so in February 1991.

Beat Kaestli will celebrate the release of his CHESKY RECORDS debut, Invitation [SACD348], with a show at Birdland Jazz Club on Thursday, April 29th, 2010 at 6 pm. Invitation [SACD348] features Billy Drummond on drums, Jay Leonhart on bass, Paul Meyers on guitar, Joel Frahm on saxophone and Kenny Rampton on Trumpet. Invitation [SACD348] marks the first release for CHESKY RECORDS in 2010.

In this evening's performance (April 27) of Rossini's ARMIDA, Barry Banks will sing the role of Gernando, replacing Jose Manuel Zapata, who is ill. Banks will also sing the role of Carlo, which he was already scheduled to perform. The character of Gernando only appears in Act I, and Carlo only appears in Act III, which makes it possible for the roles to be performed by one singer.

Ms. Scalera takes you on a biopic ride throughout Shirley's career and truly answers the question, 'What makes a dame?'

GAN-e-meed Theatre Project launches their first season with a modern interpretation of Shakespeare's HAMLET featuring an all-female cast, performing May 7-30. In honor of Mother's Day, tickets for mothers for opening weekend (May 7-9) are $10. Producing Artistic Director SerahRose Roth leads the cast as the prince who, charged with a mission by his father's ghost, must unravel his family's mysteries with spies lurking at every turn. Director Christopher Webb has created a stripped-down version which exposes the core of passion, manipulation, and the many poisons of families.

Free public readings of Kwahulé's play, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC, translated by Chantal Bilodeau will be presented at the Lark Studio. The readings are part of Lark's 7 year project to translate, develop, and publish seven of Kwahulé's plays in an effort to both encourage international exchange and to bring to the forefront a unique theatrical voice.
