Christine Johnson Smith, who originated the role of Nettie Fowler in Rogers and Hammerstein's CAROUSEL has died. The role earned Smith a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

Actors, producers, directors and well-known TV presenters appeared at the 50th Monte-Carlo Television Festival that took place Sunday, June 6 to Thursday, June 10 at the Grimaldi Forum.

According to InStyle, Lea Michele is changing her red carpet look for this year's Tony Awards. The GLEE actress usually attends award ceremonies in classic, black gowns. However; Michele will do just the opposite on June 13th. She tells Instyle: “My dress is very bright; I've never worn anything like this on a red carpet before!'

The Arts Forum at The New York Times presents 'Art Works: A Discussion About Art Spaces and Communities', June 21 at 5 pm. A reception will follow at 6 pm. The event will be at The Times Center, located at 242 West 41st St.

The Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre's 50th Anniversary Season opens on June 2nd with the Lyceum premiere of Mel Brooks' The Producers running through June 12. Winner of a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards in 2001 including Best Musical, this musical tells the story of a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer (Max Bialystock), played by Dana Snyder. Dana is returning to the Lyceum stage after a 16 year hiatus during which time he has appeared in many regional theatres from Austin to Cleveland. Mr. Snyder's television credits include Brothers and Sisters and ER. His voice over work includes Cartoon Network's Chowder, Nickelodeon's Penguins of Madagascar and Master Shake in Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Most recently, Dana has been touring the country in Adult Swim's Aqua Teen Hunger Force Live!

After postponing their production of Joe Marshall's A Night In Vegas, which was originally slated to play at The Actors' Playhouse, the Alternative Theatre Company (Joe Marshall, Founder/Artistic Director; Adrian Maynard, Managing Director) announces that as of Thursday, May 27 Joe Marshall's A Night In Vegas has found a new home at The Bleecker Street Theatre (45 Bleecker Street). Directed by Joe Marshall, opening bight will be Saturday, June 5. Premium seats are $50 and general admission tickets are $35 and can be purchased by visiting Telecharge.com. According to whatsonstage.com, Andrew Lloyd Webber's son, Nick Lloyd Webber, has recently completed writing a new, high-scale musical entitled THE LITTLE PRINCE. Based on the classic French book, THE LITTLE PRINCE will be an English interpretation of the well-known story. The younger Lloyd Webber is hoping to premiere the project in the of Winter 2010/11 and is cureently seeking a venue.

Nintendo WII plans to release a new video game entitled, 'Dance on Broadway' on June 15, 2010. Musical theatre fans will learn original choreography to a variety of popular shows that have graced the great white way. Featured shows include LEGALLY BLONDE, HAIR, DREAMGIRLS, HAIRSPRAY, and more!

Joel Zwick returned to his alma mater, James Madison High School, on May 16 to be honored for the school's 'Wall of Distinction', according to The NY Post. The award is given annually to famous alumni of the Brooklyn public school. In addition to Zwick, Madison's other 2010 honorees include the late Cal Abrams, Judith Blun Sheindlin (aka Judge Judy), Maury Allen and Deborah Tobias Poritz, among others.

According to whatsonstage.com, British actress Maria Friedman will direct a revival of Sondheim's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG at The Menier Chocolate Factory, in celebration of Sondheim's 80th birthday. Dates for the production are unknown at this time. Friedman is n stranger to the piece. She has not only appeared in the production, but also recently directed a student production at the Central School of Speech and Drama. The Menier Chocolate Factory has previously hosted other Sondheim revivals such as SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and SWEENEY TODD.

On Monday, May 24, the National Arts Club hosted a pre-release celebration party for Mickey Rapkin's 'Theater Geek.' 'Theater Geek' tells the story of Stagedoor Manor's rich history and amazing track record for producing the next generation of stars. 'Theater Geek,' penned by GQ Senior Editor and author of 'Pitch Perfect,' is published by Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc. and will be released June 1, 2010.

Starting May 27, 2010, Lucille Lortel Award-winning actress, Iris Bahr will star in the new HDNet comedy series, 'Svetlana'. The series explores the trials and tribulations of Svetlana Maksimovoskaya (Bahr), a Russian madam and political consultant. 'Svetlana' airs Thursday, May 27 at 10:30 p.m. ET on HDNet.

Actress and Broadway veteran, Lea Michele, is featured on the June 2010 cover of 'Women's Health' magainze. Lea joins GLEE castmates, Matthew Morrison and Mark Salling, who have also been featured in June magazines. The newest issues of Vogue and GQ include spreads from both Morrison and Salling, respectively. Lea's issue of 'Women's Health' is available on newsstands now!

PS Classics' release of 'Life Begins at 8:40' is now available for pre-order purchase on psclassics.com and ITunes! The CD will be available in stores on June 8. The Harold Arlen, Ira Gershwin and Yip Harburg collabrative revue was presented in concert at The Library of Congress on March 22 with Kate Baldwin, Montego Glover, Philip Chaffin, Christopher Fitzgerald, Rebecca Luker, Brad Oscar, Graham Rowat, Jessica Stone and Faith Prince. Both the concert and the recording were conducted by Aaron Grandy. According to Playbill.com, The CD package will include a 32-page color booklet with essay, complete lyrics and glossary.

Today, May 25, recent winner of 'Celebrity Apprentice', released a personal 'Thank You' note to his supportive fans. Posted on his Facebook page, Bret's note also mentions his plans to continue his tour this Friday.

Tony Award-winning actor John Lloyd Young (Jersey Boys, GLEE) joined Grammy-winning and Tony and Emmy-nominated songwriter Allee Willis (The Color Purple, Friends) on Sunday, May 23 to host FOOD FOR THOUGHT, the world premiere exhibition of Young's artwork. Young specializes in Pop Kitsch art, and FOOD FOR THOUGHT spotlights pieces that play off iconic comfort food and drinks, including mac ‘n' cheese, Good & Plenty®, Grape Crush®, and Hungry-Man® frozen dinners. The event was a fundraiser for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). VIP guests included Lesley Ann Warren (Desperate Housewives, Will & Grace), Ricki Lake and Charles Phoenix. FOOD FOR THOUGHT took place at Willis Wonderland, Willis' private studio and home to the world's largest collection of Kitsch.
