This Friday will be a time of celebration as the world premiere of Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol by Seattle playwright John Longenbaugh finally premieres at Taproot Theatre. Postponed last year due to the October 23 arson, this world premiere features the original cast, joined by Stephen Grenley, and is directed by Taproot Producing Artistic Director Scott Nolte. A celebratory reception with the cast, crew, patrons and staff immediately follows the performance.

Jeff Skowron returns as the Grinch in the Globe's 13th annual production of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Skowron made his Globe debut as the Grinch in last season's production. The annual holiday musical, directed by James Vasquez with book and lyrics by Timothy Mason and music by Mel Marvin, will run in the Old Globe Theatre Nov. 20 - Dec. 26. Previews run from Nov. 20 - Nov. 26. Opening night is Nov. 26 at 7:00 p.m.

Goodman Theatre's perennial holiday classic A Christmas Carol, consistently included among the Midwest's top-tier holiday events, returns for the 33rd season. Renowned Chicago actor John Judd appears for the first time in the legendary role of Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, 'Goodman Theatre's annual Christmas gift to Chicago' Daily Herald for more than three decades. Judd leads a cast of 26 this holiday season-including 10 Chicagoland actors also appearing in A Christmas Carol for the first time. Neo-Baroque dance-theatre group Company XIV proudly presents the World Premiere of Nutcracker Rouge, a Baroque - Burlesque confection of dance, theatre and sumptuous design. The show is directed, choreographed and conceived by Austin McCormick, with a script adapted and written by Jeff Takacs. Nutcracker Rouge runs from December 10, 2010 to January 9, 2011 in a limited engagement at Company XIV's theatre space, located at 303 Bond Street, between Union & Sackett in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Previews begin December 10 for a December 12 opening. Company XIV is donating 50% of the show's proceeds to the Ali Forney Center in New York City.

Porchlight Music Theatre will present the exhilarating live stage production of Miracle on 34th Street, based on the holiday film classic at Stage 773, 1225 West Belmont. Last night, 59th Street between Park and Lexington was a little stretch of Tinseltown. Lighthouse International and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences ('AMPAS') unveiled the newly restored Academy Theater at Lighthouse International. And some of Hollywood's greatest stars were out to celebrate the occasion.
