Applications Open Soon For Jamie Hawkins-Gaar Memorial Scholarship At Dad's Garage

Applications open next month for a Dad's Garage scholarship program to honor the life and legacy of Jamie Hawkins-Gaar. This is the third cycle of this scholarship, after taking a pause in 2020 due to the pandemic. Applications will be accepted March 15 through April 16. Dad's Garage will announce the winning group in mid-May and the team will begin performance coaching in August 2021, to run through July 2022.
American Traditions Vocal Competition To Host Free Outdoor Concert Next Week

The American Traditions Vocal Competition will be hosting a free outdoor concert at 12 (noon) on Saturday Feb. 13. This 30-minute concert will take place outside a private home located at 426 Abercorn Street. Attendees are welcome to listen to this concert, which is free and open to the public, from the beautiful and spacious Calhoun Square across from the residence, to ensure social distancing.

The Holly Theater is taking advantage of our Covid shutdown to complete some much needed renovations to our stage. For years, the Holly Board of Directors have been planning and fundraising to 'Elevate' the performance capacity of the Holly by installing a fly system. As a historic movie house built in 1948, we first had to overcome major infrastructure challenges before the fly system mechanics could be installed. We have worked with architect Jeff Crocker and BCA Studios out of Gainesville to design a new, flexible performance space with the capacity to grow our fly system capabilities in the future.

The Alliance Theatre has announced the Kathy Bernhardt Volunteer of the Year Award to recognize individuals who give of their time and resources as volunteers at the theater.  Volunteers serve as ushers, serve meals for cast and crew members, fundraise, act as ambassadors, and serve on various boards, advisory boards, and more.  The new award will annually recognize someone who exemplifies the selfless, community-oriented volunteerism of its namesake volunteer, Kathy Bernhardt.

The Atlanta Film Society (ATLFS) and the Plaza Theatre, in partnership with the nonprofit Sundance Institute, will present 12 films in Atlanta as part of the Satellite Screens initiative for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival (Festival) from January 28 - February 3, 2021. All 12 films will be making their world premieres at the Festival.
