Deadline reports that Tony-winning star of MATILDA, Gabriel Ebert, has nabbed the starring role in the Amazon pilot THE INTERESTINGS, from Sony TV's TriStar Television. The project will be penned by the writing team of Lyn Greene and Richard Levine and helmed by Mike Newell.

The show is described as "a grounded. character-driven drama based on Meg Wolitzer's novel about a group of friends who meet at an arts camp when they're 15 in 1974. The series chronicles their relationships throughout the next three decades dealing with the great expectations of youth juxtaposed with the realities life hands you as you get older."

Ebert will take on the lead role of Dennis, "Jules' less than ambitious husband who knows that she probably wanted a life larger than he could provide for her."

Ebert won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for his portrayal of Mr. Wormwood in MATILDA THE MUSICAL. He most recently appeared on Broadway opposite Keira Knightley in THERESE RAQUIN.

The actor's Broadway credits include Brief Encounter, by Noël Coward adapted and directed by Kneehigh Theatre's Emma Rice; Red, directed by Michael Grandage. He is the recipient of Juilliard's Robin Williams Scholarship and John Houseman Award.

Other credits include the Roundabout's Suicide Incorporated, dir. John Berry; the Public's The Sacrifices, dir. Sam Gold; ART's Prometheus Bound, dir. Diane Paulus. He received an Obie for his performance in Amy Herzog's 4000 Miles, dir. Daniel Aukin at the Duke Theater and Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theater.
