Theatre C Announces Politically Charged Season

Artistic Director Carlos Armesto announces Theatre C's 2018 - 2019 season, which will include two productions whose themes revolve around movements that are top of mind now; the #MeToo movement and voters' rights. In each event, songs from the show are performed, interspersed by interviews with political and social activists. Additionally, there will be three thematic queer dance parties with immersive performances and visuals in the style of THE DONKEY SHOW and HERE LIES LOVE.

VINEGAR TOM is an episodic story with songs chronicling 17th-century rural women who dare to be out-of-step with English society, and are consequently accused of witchcraft. Originally intended to have songs interspersed through the action, Caryl Churchill's searing critique of society's attack on women is vividly reimagined as a rock concert. In our production, Carlos Armesto (Theatre C's Producing Artistic Director) has guided a band of Disruptors to mount the play as part of a concert performance. As the #MeToo movement gains strength, the impact of Caryl Churchill's piece is stronger than ever.

FARMED

FARMED is a concert and interview series inspired by George Orwell's Animal Farm. Through a suite of songs and deep community partnerships, FARMED conducts interviews with leaders of grassroots movements. Highlighting revolutions happening in cities around the United States, the interviews are set to music by Trevor Bachman and his company of singer/musicians. A local community choir is engaged from each city in which we perform to sing the piece in tandem with the core artists. FARMED events culminate in an evening of songs sung by an earth-shaking choir of voices, interviews with local organizers, and a performance in front of a

An intimate remount of our bang out 1980s queer dance party, with a recreation of one of our immersive performances, and a preview of one from our next event. Experience the excitement of our 1983 bash that pays homage to the legendary gay dance party held at The Pyramid Club. With this reprise, Theatre C is giving their guests the chance to relive the totally gnarly and awesome bash, and provide those who missed it during NYC Pride, the opportunity to experience the magic for themselves. This next go round, the rad DJ David Scott will spin bitchin' music of Madonna, the Go-Gos, Wham!, A-Ha!, Janet Jackson, Cindy Lauper, Michael Jackson, Rick Astley, Billy Ocean and more, and top choreographer, Breton Tyner-Bryan, will not only re-create pop-up dance numbers from the last shindgig, but will also tease a dance number from the next party in the series, RETRO FACTORY: VOULEZ-VOUS? An homage to The Moulin Rouge.

Everyone is invited to come dressed in any Belle Epoque wear they would like and dance the night away. Be ready experience our gallery space transformed into the famed night club from the turn of the 20th Century, with surprise performances throughout the night. Music will be of the period with a contemporary twist.
