Magic Theatre, San Francisco's premiere home for new plays, announced today a one-week extension by popular demand for the world premiere musical The Opposite of Sex, which will now continue through Sunday, October 31.

Authors Douglas J. Cohen and Robert Jess Roth will return to San Francisco to add new musical numbers to the production, part of the developmental process for this sassy show with big aspirations. "We are proud to give the authors the opportunity to bring the play one step closer to a New York production," said Magic Theatre Managing Director David Gluck. Audiences who have loved the play since Opening Night will be delighted by the new material, which will be introduced in performances beginning Saturday, October 23.

Based on the cult film of the same name, The Opposite of Sex features an all-star cast that boasts Karen Ziemba Contact –Tony Award, Best Actress, Chicago, Steel Pier), Kerry Butler (Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast), David Burtka (Gypsy, The Goat or Who is Sylvia?), Jeff McCarthy (Urinetown, Beauty and the Beast), and John Bolton (Titanic). Local actors Ian Scott McGregor, Joe Mandragona, and Donna Vivino (Hairspray, national tour) complete the ensemble.

"We were very lucky to gather so much extraordinary talent in San Francisco for this premiere, and to be able to have them extend their engagement is a true delight," said Gluck. "The audience response to the show and its stellar cast has been fantastic."

Performances of The Opposite of Sex are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with the final performance on Halloween, Sunday, October 31, at 7:30 p.m. Performances are at Magic Theatre (Fort Mason Center, Building D, Laguna at Marina Blvd., San Francisco). Tickets are available at (415) 441-8822 or online at www.magictheatre.org.
