The Mendocino Theatre Company Presents Jordan Harrison's MARJORIE PRIME

The Mendocino Theatre Company is pleased to present the fifth play of its 2018 season, Jordan Harrison's MARJORIE PRIME, directed by Debira Branscombe. This thought-provoking and elegant sci-fi, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, explores the mysteries of human identity and memory. "This play makes us think about what makes us human and where we are going with Artificial Intelligence and technology," says the director.

It's 2062, the age of Artificial Intelligence, and 86-year-old Marjorie is worried that her memory may be fading. That is until the appearance of Walter, a mysterious and charming young visitor programmed to help Marjorie uncover the intricacies of her own past. As Walter's true nature is revealed, new levels of complexity emerge, leading to profound questions about the limits of technology and whether memory might be a purely human invention.

The production features local actors Ruby Bell Sherpa (Marjorie), Jesse Bevan (Walter), Mary Bever (Tess), and Dwight Branscombe (Jon). The intriguing set by Diane Larson, enhancedby Bay Area lighting designer Jeff Rowlings, gives this show a quality unlike anything local audiences have seen on the MTC stage this year. Sound by Ken Krauss, and costumes by Ricci Dedola, enhance the not-too-distant-future feel of the production.

"This is a play that takes place in the future, but is current in its themes: love, memories, family, life, death, relationships, and technology," explains Branscombe. "...it makes us laugh and cry and think about our own lives and what we will leave behind."

MARJORIE PRIME plays Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm and select Sundays at 2pm, September 20th through October 28th, at the Mendocino Theatre Company, 45200 Little Lake Street, on the campus of the Mendocino Art Center.
