THE LION KING Continues Successful Run In Mexico

One of Disney's most successful musical theatre endeavors, THE LION KING, continues its run in Mexico City at the Telcel Theatre. It is located at the heart of the Plaza Carso, which features two world class museums, a shopping center, and an aquarium. This production of THE LION KING opened it's doors in May 2015 after a limited run in 2008.

THE LION KING premiered on Broadway in 1997, and is still running at the Minskoff Theatre. It is based on the 1994 Disney animated classic of the same name. In 1998 the show was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical and Best Choreography.

Listed here is the full cast: Shirley Hlahatse as Rafiki, Jorge Lau as Mufasa, Augustin Arguello as Simba, Aitza Teran as Nala, Carlos Quezada as Scar, Mauricio Salas as Zazu, Alfonso Borbolla as Timon, Sergio Carranza as Pumba, Taiane Martins as Shenzi, Cesar Enriquez as Banzai, Ignacio Riva Palacio as Ed, Andre Real as Young Simba.

Rounding out the cast are Angeles Reyes, Marisol Menses, Alejandra Fuentes, Marisolava Fernandez, Nayeli Balderas, Patricia Martinez, Portia Manyike, Rosana Galli, Salua Jackson, Sheila Hernandez, Vuyelwa Laura, Tshona, Yadira Ferrer, Zodwa Mrasi, Adam Sadwing, Carlos Sandoval, Eduardo Sandoval, Jose Ahued, Lungelo Ndlovu, Mauricio de Montellano, Raymundo Montoya, Siphosihle Shadrack Mlombile, Tomas Larraguviel, Jose Roberto Guerrero, Ricardo Baez, Sibusiso Jeffrey Matchikiza, Mickey Beigi, Felipe Flores, Joana Dominguez, Daphne Pantoja, Viridiana Cotes, Jireth Joaquim, and Jorge Flores.

The show features well known songs such as "The Circle of Life," "I Just Can't Wait To Be King," and "Hakuna Matata," music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, and a book by Irene Mecchi and Roger Allers. Direction, costume design, and co-design of masks by Julie Taymor, choreography by Garth Fagan, additional music and lyrics by Lebo M., Hans Zimmer, and Jay Rifkin, set design by Richard Hudson, light design by Donald Holder, and mask and puppet design by Michael Curry.
