On February 7th, original Altar Boyz cast member Scott Porter will depart the show.

Porter, who created the role of Altar Boyz leader Matthew after an exhaustive nationwide search, will be leaving the acclaimed boy-band to pursue a solo career in television; he will begin shooting for the new Ron Howard/Brian Grazer series, "Friday Night Lights," based on the 2004 film of the same name. Peter Berg will again direct, as well as co-produce, the new series for NBC.

Porter will follow another 'Matthew' to fame and fortune: Cheyenne Jackson, who created the role at the NY Musical Theater Festival left the show to take on the lead role in the Broadway production of All Shook Up. He has gone on to make his feature film debut in Paul Greengrass' upcoming feature film Flight 93 (Universal Pictures).

Winner of the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, Altar Boyz "is the smash hit musical-comedy spoof about a heavenly guy-group on the rise to stardom. Join the A-Boyz on the last leg of their national tour as they belt out hilarious songs and tell their unbelievably funny story (including how a nice Jewish boy ended up in the group - his mother for one would like to know). With an extraordinary mix of spectacular music, sinfully sensational dancing, uncontrollable laughs and lighthearted fun, this award-winning and totally original new musical is 90 minutes of pure delight that's suitable for all ages," state press notes.

Also featured in the cast are Tyler Maynard as Mark; James Royce Edwards as Luke; Clyde Alves as Juan, and Dennis Moench as Abraham, the Jewish Altar Boy. Altar Boyz features Shadoe Stevens as the voice of G.O.D.

The show is directed by Stafford Arima and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli. Altar Boyz features music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker with book by Kevin Del Aguila, based on a concept by Marc Kessler and Ken Davenport.
Ken Davenport and Robyn Goodman, in association with Walt Grossman, Ruth Hendel, Sharon Karmazin, Matt Murphy and Mark Shacket, present the musical.

Performances are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 8 pm, Saturday at 2 pm & 8 pm, and Sunday at 3pm & 7 pm, at Dodger Stages, Stage 4 (340 West 50th Street). Tickets are $69.99. ($1 Restoration charge included). Dodger Stages, Stage 4 is located at 340 West 50th Street, just west of Eighth Avenue. Tickets may be ordered online at Telecharge.
