Sarasota Orchestra'a Masterworks Series to Feature French Masterpieces

Sarasota Orchestra welcomes guest pianist Andrew von Oeyen to perform a program that pays homage to the Impressionistic era of music.

The concert showcases Andrew von Oeyen's performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2. Von Oeyen has performed debut recitals in halls such as: Wigmore Hall and Barbican Hall in London, Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Boston's Symphony Hall, Zürich's Tonhalle, and Moscow's Tchaikovsky Hall. Festival appearances include. He has also played in a number of piano festivals in the USA, including Aspen, Ravinia, Grant Park, Mainly Mozart, Saratoga, and the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina.

The concert concludes with Debussy's La Mer, a description of the ocean. Lush melodies roll forth as waves while the music sparkles and shifts in new and exciting ways. While the Symphony still owes much to the impressionistic era, it contains much that is new and foreshadows Debussy's future works.
