QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Release 'Run Away From The Mob' From PERFECTH
The closing track on the nine-song album finds Homme's falsetto combining with swaggering instrumentation originally recorded with Dave Grohl on drums.
Queens of the Stone Age have released 'Run Away From the Mob,' the fourth song shared from their forthcoming ninth studio album, Perfecth, due out Friday, Oct. 30 via Matador Records.
The closing track on the nine-song record, 'Run Away From the Mob' is the culmination of a project forged from fearlessness and composed of equal parts reflection and ferocity. The song finds Josh Homme's falsetto combining with swaggering instrumentation originally recorded in 2013 with close-collaborator Dave Grohl on drums, with the track coming into its full potential this year.
'The reason these songs didn't get finished until now is because I wasn't qualified to finish them, yet,' Homme admits.
Speaking about the song, Homme said, 'It's a letter. A last one, addressed to an oldest son - 'if you're reading this, everything went wrong, and here's what you have to do'. The end is the sound of a father standing behind his son.'
'Run Away From the Mob' follows previously released Perfecth songs 'Where the Goth Girls At?', 'Insignificant Other,' and 'Easy Street,' ahead of the album's Oct. 30 release via Matador Records. Perfecth can be pre-ordered at qotsa.com.
Produced by Homme and band member Michael Shuman, the record was made in the spirit of Kintsugi - the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by filling its cracks with gold, which holds that what has been shattered is made more beautiful, not less, by the act of repair. It's an album that could only have been made right now thanks to Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Shuman, Dean Fertita, and Jon Theodore taking significant evolutionary steps as a collective and arriving at hard-won clarity, its nine songs map different forms of love: of family, friends, and others both significant and insignificant. The loves that break you beyond survival and the loves that put you back together.
Birthed from sessions tracked everywhere from New Orleans to Los Angeles, the music is fearless and boundless, moody and menacing, gentle and strange. Here, Queens have moved a career's worth of jagged pieces into alignment.
'Every song sounds like it's from a different world,' says Homme. 'And that's on purpose, because it's trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.'
Following a summer filled with live shows, both across Europe with System of a Down and through North America with Foo Fighters, Queens have just announced the Perfecth World Tour 2027. Beginning May 1st at San Diego's Viejas Arena, they will bring their live set to venues including the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, TD Garden in Boston, and will stage outdoor shows at Red Rocks and American Family Insurance Amp in Milwaukee. Pixies and Wheelchair Sports Camp will support at all shows, which go on sale on Thursday, Oct. 29th at 10am local time.
The dates will follow a headline run through Autumn 2026 in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore. Select European headline dates for 2027 will be announced on 2nd November. Sign up at qotsa.com to be the first to receive updates.
