ProMusica Chamber Orchestra Reveals 48th Season in Columbus

ProMusica Chamber Orchestra has announced the details of its 2026-2027 season. Under the direction of Music Director David Danzmayr, the orchestra's 48th season brings together a blend of timeless masterworks and bold contemporary voices spanning centuries and styles. From Mozart's powerful Mass in C Minor to original works by Clarice Assad, Arvo Pärt, and Viet Cuong, the season features a roster of internationally acclaimed guest artists along with Creative Partner violinist Vadim Gluzman, creating dynamic musical experiences for audiences.

“ProMusica is defined by inventive, bold programming, and our 2026–27 season is no exception,” said Janet Chen, ProMusica's CEO. “Collaborations with longstanding partners like the Capital University Chapel Choir, along with performances featuring dynamic, world-class guest artists and our exceptional musicians, will inspire, transcend, and excite audiences.”

OPENING WEEKEND: MOZART'S GREAT MASS

OCT. 17-18, 2026 | SOUTHERN THEATRE

ProMusica's 48th season will open with Danzmayr leading a program of elegance and emotional depth. Mozart's Divertimento in D Major opens the evening, followed by Max Richter's On the Nature of Daylight. The program culminates with Mozart's Mass in C Minor, featuring four vocal soloists along with the Columbus Choral Artists and Capital University Chapel Choir, for a powerful collaborative performance.

BACH, PÄRT, & SCHUBERT

NOV. 7-8, 2026 | SOUTHERN THEATRE:

Baroque, classical, and contemporary voices will come together in a program shaped by contrast and connection. Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 opens the evening, followed by Arvo Pärt's Tabula Rasa, featuring violinists Katherine McLin and Vadim Gluzman. Schubert's Symphony No. 3 will close the program with energy and grace.

PLAY! & BEETHOVEN'S PASTORAL

DEC. 12-13, 2026 | SOUTHERN THEATRE:

ProMusica will welcome the return of renowned Brazilian American composer Clarice Assad as part of its Composer/Performer Project. Her Suite for Lower Strings will open the program, followed by her rhythmically driven PLAY!, featuring Assad as vocalist alongside the GRAMMY-Award winning Third Coast Percussion. Beethoven's Pastoral will offer portraits of nature, and Lumbye's Champagne Gallop brings the evening to a festive close.

MENDELSSOHN, RODRIGO, & MORRICONE

JAN. 16-17, 2027 | SOUTHERN THEATRE:

Inspired by the sunlit beauty of the Mediterranean, the program will bring a cinematic flair to the stage. Music by Ennio Morricone, including Cinema Paradiso and Gabriel's Oboe, opens the evening, followed by Vienna Philharmonic principal harpist Anneleen Lenaerts, performing a virtuosic arrangement of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez. Mendelssohn's Italian will bring the program to a vibrant and radiant close.

NAKED CLASSICS: SCHUMANN'S “RHENISH”

APRIL 9, 2027 | SOUTHERN THEATRE:

Hosted by Paul Rissmann, the innovative NAKED CLASSICS program offers a fresh and engaging way to explore classical music. Through images, sound bites, and interviews with musicians, NAKED CLASSICS deconstructs major orchestral works, revealing insights into the score and the composer's life and times, before culminating in a full performance. This season's installment will feature Schumann's Rhenish, leading a vivid journey through the landscapes and grandeur of the Rhine River. NAKED CLASSICS is not a part of the subscription series

SCHUMANN & CHOPIN

APRIL 10-11, 2027 | SOUTHERN THEATRE:

Romantic brilliance meets contemporary expression in this vibrant program. Vietnamese American composer Viet Cuong's Next Week's Trees will open the evening with a message of reflection and hope. Pianist Claire Huangci will make her ProMusica debut with Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1. Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 3 “Rhenish” concludes the program with a triumphant and expansive finale evoking the landscapes of the Rhine River.

VADIM, VASKS, & BEETHOVEN

MAY 8-9, 2027 | SOUTHERN THEATRE:

Creative Partner Vadim Gluzman will take center stage as he leads ProMusica in its season finale, opening with Bach's Adagio e Dolce. Pēteris Vasks' Distant Light will offer a deeply expressive and atmospheric showcase of Gluzman's artistry. Beethoven's Eighth Symphony will bring the 48th season to an energic and spirited close.
