The 2013 Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust honored playwrights Annie Baker and Rajiv Joseph at last night''s 2013 Steinberg Playwright Awards held at Lincoln Center Theater''s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. The evening also highlighted the work of David Henry Hwang, who received the 2012 Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, as last year''s event was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you a brief look back at the event!

The evening featured opening remarks by Todd London, Steinberg Playwright Awards Advisory Committee member and Artistic Director of New Dramatists, followed by readings of two new pieces by David Henry Hwang and Rajiv Joseph. Hwang presented a scene from Kung Fu, featuring actors Bradley Fong and Cole Horibe. Kung Fu is set for a World Premiere at Signature Theatre in February 2014. Annie Baker presented an excerpt from The Flick with performances by original cast members: Alex Hanna, Louisa Krause, Matthew Maher and Aaron Clifton Moten. Rajiv Joseph featured a preview of his new play, Guards at the Taj, with performances by Omar Metwally and Arian Moayed. The evening also featured appearances by Oskar Eustis, John Clinton Eisner and John Guare. Michael Steinberg and Jim Steinberg, Board of Directors Members of The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, were also in attendance.

Additional guests included Costume Designer William Ivey Long, Director Pam MacKinnon, Playwright Joshua Harmon, Actresses Lesli Margherita (Matilda the Musical) and Molly Ranson (Bad Jews, Carrie) and Actors Stephen Carrasco (Kinky Boots), Michael Zegen (Bad Jews, "Boardwalk Empire") and Philip Ettinger (Bad Jews).

The Steinberg Playwright Awards are presented biennially and are uniquely positioned to honor the accomplishments of some of the most gifted up-and-coming American Playwrights, as well as recognize the promise they hold for the future of American theatre.
