On April 2nd, the National Arts Club presented Albert Mayles (the co-creator of the original Grey Gardens documentary) and the creative team of Broadway's Grey Gardens with the Medal of Honor for theatre.
The event featured Grey Gardens composer Scott Frankel, lyricist Michael Korie, bookwriter Doug Wright, and director Michael Greif, as well as such guests as KT Sullivan and Lee Roy Reams. Also at the event were Grey Gardens cast members Matt Cavenaugh, Erin Davie, Bob Stillman, and Sarah Hyland.
The musical also stars Tony Award-winner Christine Ebersole (42nd Street, Dinner at Eight) and Mary Louise Wilson (Cabaret, Full Gallop), John McMartin, Michael Potts, and Kelsey Fowler. Grey Gardens is based on the legendary documentary (by Albert Mayles and his late brother David Maysles) about two eccentric relatives of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. It premiered at Playwrights Horizons.
