New Musical RED SKY To Have Industry Reading at The Colony Theatre Ahead of Full Production This Fall
The new musical features songs by Jed Tucker Whedon, book by Jed and Zack Whedon.
Red Sky, a sci-fi musical about how life endures in the aftermath of the end of the world, will debut its next staged reading on May 23, 2026 at The Colony Theatre in Los Angeles.
From the creative forces behind the Emmy, Hugo, and Saturn Award winning musical Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and the executive producers of Marvel's longest running live-action series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and featuring songs by Jed Tucker Whedon, book by Jed and Zack Whedon, musical direction by Dan Lipton, and produced by Maurissa Tancharoen, Red Sky explores resilience, survival, and the fragile threads of human connection that persist even after catastrophe. Blending cinematic scope with an intimate emotional core, the musical delivers a sweeping, character-driven narrative lifted by a dynamic original score.
The 29-Hour reading will feature Broadway and Hollywood talent including Anthony Lee Medina (Hamilton), Olivier nominee Jon Jon Briones (Hadestown), Lana McKissack (Countdown), John Clarence Stewart (Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist), Mike Ostroski (The Morning Show), Ren Hanami (Lola), Julia Doty (Wizard of Oz), Jasiana Caraballo (Rent), and Carlos Ragas (The Brother's Sun). Casting is by Zachary Spiegel, CSA.
The upcoming presentation builds on a successful 2025 table read at IAMA Theatre Company and represents a more fully realized version of the piece as it moves toward a full-scale production at the El Portal Theatre this fall.
Attendance for the May 23rd presentation is by private invitation only. More information, including casting and creative team announcements for the fall production, are available at www.redskymusical.com.
