HAMILTON's Mandy Gonzalez Joins 2018 Broadway Theatre Project

Now entering its 28th year, Broadway Theatre Project (BTP) announces BTP's own successful alumna Mandy Gonzalez as part of the visiting artists' team. BTP faculty range from professional dancers and choreographers to vocal coaches and directors.

Mandy Gonzalez is currently starring in the Broadway musical sensation Hamilton as Angelica Schuyler. Mandy can also be seen on the CBS hit, "Madam Secretary." Mandy is also known for originating the role of Nina Rosario, in her brilliant performance in the Tony Award winning, Lin-Manuel Miranda Broadway musical In the Heights, a role she originally created Off Broadway at 37 Arts and which received a Drama Desk Award. Mandy starred as Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked, for which she was awarded a Broadway.com Award for "Best Replacement." Other Broadway roles include Princess Amneris in the Elton John and Tim Rice musical Aida and the Broadway show Lennon. Mandy founded the social media movement, #FearlessSquad, which is focused on creating a sense of belongingness, inclusiveness, and positivity on social media.

Mandy commented on her return to BTP saying, "I am so excited to meet the BTP students, the newest members of the #FearlessSquad! I began the #FearlessSquad in order to create a sense of positivity on social media. It has become a community and movement which has given so many people a sense of belonging and so many incredible friendships have formed as a result. The #FearlessSquad has for rules: 1. We help each other when we fall 2. We embrace differences 3. We look for the good 4. We dream big."

Mandy is a Warner Music artist and recently released her debut album, FEARLESS, which debuted at #13 on the iTunes pop charts. Fearless is the name of the title track written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. She is playing two dates in Florida - March 12th in Delray Beach at the Crest Theatre and March 14th in Aventura at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center.

BTP is accepting applications for its 2018 summer institute being held July 8-29, 2018. To apply to become an apprentice at BTP 2018, students must complete and send an application form available on www.broadwaytheatreproject.org, along with a recorded audition to Debra McWaters at flodecarlo@aol.com. Space is guaranteed if application is received by March 2, 2018; thereafter on space available basis (unless live audition has been previously scheduled).
