Long Island's premiere professional Equity musical theatre, continues its 59th season with the multiple award winning, "Forbidden Broadway" June 18 – July 6. This Gateway presentation, in its encore professional production on Long Island, is a unique specialized version created and directed by the original director, Phillip George. Robert Felstein is the musical director.  Kelly Tighe is the scenic designer and Brian Loesch is the lighting designer/production manager. The multi-talented cast are all veterans of numerous "Forbidden Broadway" productions.  They are Erin Crosby, James Donegan, Kevin McGlynn and Kristen Mengelkoch.  They will also be trying out new material for the new NYC edition to premiere this summer.  (subject to change)

"Forbidden Broadway" began on New York's Upper West Side in January 1982. Gerard Alessandrini assembled some of the musical parodies of Broadway shows, their creators and some of the actresses and actors who are in them.  Critics and audiences were wowed and it has since become New York's longest running musical comedy revue. It has won Drama Desk, Obie and Outer Critics Circle. In October 2006, The Tony Awards Administration Committee awarded Gerard Alessandrini and Forbidden Broadway with a 2006 Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre. Legendary performer Angela Lansbury presented the special Tony to Mr. Alessandrini.  Updated regularly, the hit show has had numerous editions, countless revisions, three New York City performance spaces, several national and international tours, and thousands of special performances.  The show also became known for talented but as yet unknown actors, many of whom have gone on to stardom on Broadway, on television and in the movies.   Forbidden Broadway provides an informal and very funny history of the American musical theatre and remains one of the funniest evenings on or Off-Broadway. This irreverent comic spoof is a Must-Fun-SEE!

2008 marks Gateway's 59th year of producing first class entertainment. The state-of-the-art facility surrounded by a beautifully landscaped rustic exterior creates a unique theater going experience; one of the top ten summer theaters in the nation.  The seven acres of wooded, grassy land encompass the Mainstage theatre (seats 500), Barn theatre (for acting school classes and projects), scene shop, two rehearsal studios, three dorm-style housing units, a newly remodeled kitchen, costume shop, design office/studio, paint shop, box office, business office, various storage spaces, a recreation room and a large hedge-lined lawn with outdoor swimming pool.  All of the actors are professionals, most are members of Actors Equity and the musicians are members of A F of M (Local 802). SSDC© directors (Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers) and USA© designers (United Scenic Artists) are employed.  Gateway's Acting School is now in it's 13th year of providing professional training.  Their set rental business has grown to over 40 full sets to lease.
Upcoming productions are "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" at the Patchogue Theatre, 71 E. Main Street, Patchogue, on July 9-26;.  "Show Boat" July 30-August 23; "The Producers", in the Patchogue Theatre August 27-September 13; and The Wedding Singer"" September 17–October 4.  Beginning in July starts the popular Children's Theatre shows.

Regular performances of "Forbidden Broadway" are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at 8:00 pm; Saturday at 4:00 & 8:30 pm; Sunday at 2:00 & 7:00 pm with week day matinees on Thursday at 2:00 pm and a special one Wednesday, July 2.  There will be no performance on July 4th.
