Award-winning and sector-leading London based theater company Frantic Assembly (Movement Direction, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) visits NYC's HB Studio this Fall to teach a Physical Theater Masterclass. Frantic Assembly's widely studied method of devising theater from a physical starting point has been impacting theatrical practice for up to 24 years. The workshop, now enrolling, is scheduled for October 22, 2017.

New York, NY (September 26, 2017) - This Fall, London-based theater company Frantic Assembly will lead a day-long Physical Theater Masterclass at HB Studio, one of New York's most venerable institutions for theater training and practice. The workshop is intended for actors and theater-makers interested in making theater from a physical starting point and learning the skills to develop their own work in a more dynamic and physically compelling way. Frantic Assembly is an internationally renowned theatre company known for their physically-based, innovative original productions and their movement direction on productions such as the award-winning National Theatre of Great Britain production The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (West End, Broadway, UK & Ireland Tour, US tour). The workshop will be held in HB Studio's historic HB Playwrights Theatre on Sunday, October 22, 2017, and taught by Frantic Assembly practitioner Jess Williams.

Workshop participants will gain insight into how Frantic Assembly creates new work and learn the skills to embark on their own devised projects. This workshop promotes physical confidence and encourages performers to look beyond self-perceived limitations. This 6-hour workshop will give participants a strong understanding of the way Frantic Assembly works in the rehearsal room. The day will include a thorough warm up, tasks based on team building and spatial awareness, ensemble work, pairs work, and an introduction to devising and sequencing movement and developing physical skills including contact work and advanced lifting techniques.

Founded in 1994 with little more than a fierce work ethic and a desire to do something different and to do it differently, Frantic Assembly has developed into one of the most studied and praised theater companies working today. Led by Artistic Director and co-founder Scott Graham, they have toured extensively across Great Britain and worked in 40 countries, collaborating with some of today's most inspiring artists. Their productions include Things I Know To Be True (the UK and Australia), Othello, Beautiful Burnout (UK, Australia, New Zealand and New York), Lovesong, Stockholm (UK and Australia), and The Believers. In addition toThe Curious Incident..., Frantic has provided movement direction for many productions including the BAFTA nominated British/American TV series Humans (AMC, Channel 4 & Kudos).

HB Studio, founded in 1945, is a non-profit organization that provides an artistic home and vibrant creative community where both aspiring and professional artists find opportunity, education, encouragement, and support.
