Nine young playwrights (ages 9 to 11), all members of The 52nd Street Project from Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, will make their theatrical debut at the Public Theater in December with a cast of actors that will include Edie Falco, Josh Hamilton, Martha Plimpton, Bill Camp, Kevin Geer, Nancy Giles and Mary Louise Wilson.

"The 52nd Street Project's Playmaking Stage One program teaches children how to develop characters, invent situations and, eventually, to write short plays. After a nine-week course, each child is assigned a pair of professional actors and their own dramaturge. The children interview the actors before going on a weekend writing retreat to upstate New York. Upon returning to the city, adult directors rehearse the plays with adult professional actors for free presentation before a general audience," state press notes.

The 52nd Street Project is in its 25th anniversary year of bringing inner-city children together with professional theater artists. It was founded in 1981 by actor/writer Willie Reale in response to a deepening need to improve the quality of life for New York's inner-city children.

The short plays entitled, Oh No You Didn't, Plays That Do!, will play Friday, December 9 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, December 10 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 11 at 3:00 PM.

Admission to the show is free and open to the public but reservations are required. The Public Theater is located at 425 Lafayette Avenue, between West 4th and Astor Place. Reservations can be made by calling (212) 642-5052.
