D-WORDING Reading to Open EnActe NYC's New Works Incubator
The invite-only reading of 'D-Wording' will be presented at Kaafi in NYC on September 3rd. Casting will be announced soon.
The Lunchbox's Neeta Thadani will be teaming up with EnActe NYC to direct 'D-Wording', a new play by recent Juilliard MFA graduate Salwa Meghjee. Thadani recently closed 'The Lunchbox' as the associate to Rachel Chavkin, which ran at Berkeley Rep through mid July.
The EnActe New York Collective serves as the first platform based in New York City for South Asian theater-makers (actors, musicians, directors, and designers) to find professional community, artistic collaborators, and a range of developmental resources to help them create a sustainable and successful career. As a part of the larger New York Collective, the New Works Incubator serves to uplift and develop new theater that centers South Asian stories and artistry. Each year, one play and one musical are selected to be developed and fostered as part of the incubator.
'D-Wording' follows Bo, who has been diagnosed for the third time with brain cancer - but this time it is terminal. His sister Layla is undergoing electroconvulsive therapy to treat her severe depression, and their grandfather is suffering from dementia. As the three fight battles with their brains, their family reels from the diagnoses and threatens to break apart.
The intimate, invite-only reading of 'D-Wording' will be presented at Kaafi in NYC on September 3rd at 7pm. Casting will be announced soon. To learn more about EnActeNYC, visit https://www.enacte.org/nyc/.
