Broadway performer Joomin Hwang, currently appearing in & Juliet, is expanding his work beyond the stage with The Rule of Five Journal, a structured daily practice designed to help individuals build clarity, balance, and forward momentum.

Originally from South Korea, Hwang began his career as a breakdancer before relocating to the United States to study vocal performance. Within five years, he made his Broadway debut in The Prom, becoming the first native Korean to perform at the Tony Awards. He later joined the original cast of & Juliet, and has since built a career across theater and screen, with credits including KPOP, In the Heights, Pose, and Iron Fist.

What began as a personal tool during a period of transition has evolved into a structured daily method now being shared with a wider audience.

Drawing from his own experiences navigating significant life changes, Hwang developed The Rule of Five Journal as a practical system for reflecting on thoughts, emotions, and daily experiences.

What makes the book unique is its grounding in psychology and neuroscience — the 5:1 positivity ratio by The Gottman Institute, the Five Whys by Sakichi Toyoda, reframing techniques by Aaron Beck, Barbara Fredrickson's research on positive emotions, and the science of growth sweet spot by Steven Kotler — distilled into a simple, repeatable routine designed to help users reflect, rebalance, and create meaningful change in just a few minutes each day

Each entry guides users through four steps:

  • Listing five positive moments or observations

  • Identifying one challenge and exploring its root cause

  • Reframing perspective with five additional positive thoughts

  • Taking one small, actionable step forward

Grounded in neuroscience and positive psychology, the method focuses on consistency and practical application.

In addition to his performance career, Hwang is also a IVA (Institute for Vocal Advancement) certified vocal coach, working with performers around the globe to develop confidence and technique. His work across theater, coaching, and authorship reflects a broader focus on growth, resilience, and self-expression.
