Broadway Theatre Project 2018 Applications Now Available Now entering its 28th year, Broadway Theatre Project (BTP), a program described by Playbill as "The world's most prestigious musical theatre arts education program for high school and college students", is now accepting applications for the 2018 Summer Apprenticeship program, being held July 8-29, 2018.

The deadline for applications and recorded auditions is February 12, 2018 with letters containing the results emailed by February 15th.

In order to apply to become an apprentice at BTP 2018, students must complete and send an application form available on www.broadwaytheatreproject.com, along with a recorded audition to Debra McWaters at flodecarlo@aol.com by February 12, 2017. Please see the website for specifics. Live auditions will be held for the participants of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 1 which runs from January 30-February 4th. Other live audition opportunities will be posted on the BTP website as they are scheduled, so please check the website regularly.

The 2017 summer apprentices had the rare opportunity to perform 'Chicago the Musical'. McWaters, who was the Assistant Choreographer on the original Tony Award winning Broadway show and mounted "Chicago the Musical" from Broadway to Australia, secured the rights to the show, which is celebrating its 21st year. Exciting new and returning faculty for Summer 2018 will be announced in the coming months. For a full list of the 2017 faculty and artists visit: www.broadwaytheatreproject.com.

Founded in 1991 by Tony award-winning dancer, choreographer and director, Ann Reinking, and BTP Artistic Director, Debra McWaters, the annual 3-week institute was created with a mission to further develop the key disciplines of musical theatre; acting, voice and dance, as well as the critical life skills required for the world of professional theatre. Emphasis is not only placed on the individual art forms but also the collaborative process. BTP endeavors not only to provide educational excellence but also to mold a well-balanced, musical theatre performer and professional.

Dozens of highly successful Broadway stars and directors have been involved with BTP throughout the years. In a training manual written by McWaters called Musical Theatre Training: The Broadway Theatre Project Handbook many of those artists impart their wisdom on musical theatre training for the students.

Actor, Director Austin Pendleton said, "If I know what you are thinking about, it's not intriguing to me. It makes the magic go away." Julie Andrews said, "Learn your craft and learn it well. It's okay to learn from failures, and don't let the success go to your head."

As Debra McWaters put it when asked about the quotes: "At BTP, we are lucky to host working artists who are also talented teachers and have a passion for sharing their knowledge and beginning the process of "passing the baton" to those who are young and will someday carry on that tradition. Broadway Theatre Project is also a fertile ground for experimental work. "It is no easy feat to gather a group of artists who are also adept at transmitting information innovatively and with patience," says President Debra McWaters. "At BTP, we are lucky to host working artists who are also talented teachers and have a passion for sharing their knowledge with those entering the profession
