Breaking News: Willkommen, Emma! Emma Stone in Negotiations to Take Over as CABARET's New 'Sally Bowles'
As BroadwayWorld reported last month, Michelle Williams has extended her acclaimed run in Cabaret on Broadway through November 9, 2014, and BroadwayWorld has just learned that a new 'Sally Bowles' is on her way to the Kit Kat Klub. A rep for the show has confirmed to BWW: "Emma Stone is in negotiations to make her Broadway debut as "Sally Bowles" in Cabaret on Broadway at Roundabout Theatre Company." Stone was reportedly in talks to join the show last spring, but had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
Cabaret is playing a limited run on Broadway through January 4, 2015.
Stone made her feature film debut in Superbad (2007). She has co-starred in The House Bunny (2008), Zombieland (2009), and Paper Man (2009). In 2010, Stone played the lead role in Easy A, for which she received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. For this production, Academy Award-winner Sam Mendes (director) and Academy Award nominee Rob Marshall (co-director/choreographer) recreated their Tony-nominated direction and choreography from the 1998 Tony Award-winning production. Cabaret features a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. It is based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood.
The cast also features 2014 Tony nominee Linda Emond as Fraulein Schneider, 2014 Tony nominee Danny Burstein as Herr Schultz, Bill Heck as Cliff, Aaron Krohn as Ernst and Gayle Rankin as Fraulein Kost. Studio 54 has been converted into the gritty Kit Kat Klub withCabaret-type seating as well as traditional theatre seating, to recreate the decadent environment of the notorious pre-war Berlin Nightclub.
CABARET features some of the best-known songs in musical theatre, including "Willkommen," "Maybe This Time" and "Cabaret."
