Last year, BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theater website on the Internet, launched a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country. This free service makes it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.

With the new school year in full gear, BWW has updated the fully-interactive Student Show Calendar with 2011-2012 student productions. We have also made it easy for schools to upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. In addition, BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content.

Today, BWW is thrilled to spotlight the students and faculty of the Theatre Arts Department at Mendocino College in Ukiah, California!

Students enrolled in the Theatre Arts program at Mendocino have the option of majoring in Theatre or Dance, with studies culminating in an Associate Arts Degree. Curriculum courses include acting, improvisation, performance, general theatre studies, dance, and technical theatre, as well as study in voice, opera and musical theatre offered via the school's music department. In addition to academic work and production opportunities within the department, gaining professional experience is vastly encouraged at Mendocino with students venturing outside the halls of the school to work with local theater companies and industry professionals in the community. The 2011-2012 production season brought classical works to the Mendocino stage with 'Oedipux Rex' playing in the fall, and Anton Chekhov's 'The Seagull' staged during the Spring term and starring Andrea McCullough as Irina and Daemon Seraphim as Konstantin. Capping off the current academic year, the 10th Annual Festival of New Plays will be presented on May 18 and 19 at the Mendocino College Little Theatre. This festival showcases nine world premiere productions scripted by local playwrights and directed by Mendocino's own Theatre students. Click here to read about the festival line-up.
